Thanks Shadow Man. Have been reading your posts for a while now. Have been following this issue as well as the single county commish. issue, trying to get a handle on what goes on up there. It is very different, where everyone knows everyone so to speak. Sort of like Lacey Township in New Jersey where we lived prior to eight years ago. Since then though, we've been in Memphis for three years (metro area over a million) and then for past five years in Tampa Bay area (population over 3 million). So topics of interest on the front burner here are mostly murder, mayhem, etc. and we do tire of it after a while. I guess you get the Atlanta news up there and it is surely the same stuff. I think those of you who have spent a while in the mountains are blessed with having a much clearer picture of what is important.

Just for reference, I am not by no means against people moving in here and never meant for anybody to think that. The people I reference to was those who pitched the tantrams and are dead set against letting the boards decision stand.

I found out today that my mother did house keeping for one of the people who was on the news ranting how they felt the punishment was not severe enough. She only worked there a brief time and loves the wife of the fella who spoke out.

As for how other places deal with things.. I think everytown deals differently and everytown goes thru growing pains too.

I myself am upset that everything that is more important at this point in time than a email is being put aside by anyone.

Why isnt this much rucus made on other things... I just dont understand. A murder happens slap dab in town.. the murderer isnt cought... its hushed and no leads apparently.... where is the out ccry for that? Where all these people on a band wagon to help find clues or assist in looking for the murderer? If so, please do let me know different.... I admit, I aint been to the murder scene. I have questioned but I havent made the outcry that this email stuff has had.

No I never was on the offending side of Mr. R. I am human. I know how easy it is to get in a ahh oww situation. Im guilty and I may add.. thank God for my ahh owws or growth and learning and knowing the difference and pointing out the changes needed wouldnt been done and Id be worse off.

Theres always the cought and the uncought. The one who pays the piper more than they have and the ones who dont have to pay a dime.

Its drained to the point where only God knows and he does. He didnt throw out Mary Magaline to the pit for punishment.

The person who said that we need to do more soul searching... yeah I did that, do it lots and thats what I found. God didnt cast out Mary Magaleen or Magaline.. however you spell that. So who are you to cast Mr. R out? Who am I to cast you out? Im nobody. I am no one.
You that want me to do soul searching.. thank you for that cause I found what I wanted to say all along and have in everyway I could,.

I enjoyed the articles in the NGN by the way. I think the kids done a fine job at representing themselves and they deserve that. After all... isnt this what this was about.. people trying to care of our kids.. who can inspiring enough... be more grown up about this than I can. Applause to you young adults for standing up for YOU. You matter and you deserve every chance to be heard!

I love Blairsville with a passion! I moved here from Savannah, GA. An experience I had with 5th grade students: My male 5th grade teacher also worked after school as a wrestling coach at one of the local high schools. He had the habit of web surfing when class begun (gave students busy work). One day three boys came to my office and reported teacher as looking at "nasty" pics. When we checked web history we found out he was at a wrestling site and some "well endowed" cheerleaders were on the home page. These students sure are smart! I am not taking sides on this issue but just wanted to share another outcome from educators and computer use.
btw - after trying since Oct. to get on forum I finally reregistered from Toonces to Toonces2 - Pleased to see Bd of Ed applying technology practices.

From what I heard, the kids that signed that said they didn't know what it was for. The way it was worded, (from a students mouth) was that it asked if you were supportive of your high school.
??
Then, I haven't read the paper yet, but is it true that Norm Cooper suggested that we HANG (in a modern way with words instead of a noose) the person who called Channel 2?

hmmmm...
I don't see how someone reading could not understand what it was for...it's clearly speaking out against Mr. Carter and showing support for Mr. R.

As for Norm...

(quote)
Traitors should be hanged.
In today's society, we can't physically go get them, grab a rope and find a tree. But, there are other ways to "legally" hang someone, and that is with verbal opinions.

Thanks Topaz.
Very Christian of Norm to suggest such actions. He's an editor too? It's very sad that this has come to this. Mr. R has lost all his dignity. I'm 1/2 & 1/2 on what he's done, but I'm not out trying to put a scarlett letter on his shirt.
And as far as the guy who called Channel 2, or anyone...I would never give anyone the suggestion to hang or verbally abuse someone.

My Neices signed the letter and I would be looking in the paper for more to come too most defin. Im sorry Maddy but you know how much I ....errr yeah but this one.. this is original work done by the students and lead by the students.

I wonder why Norm made all the remarks about not wanting any news outlets from Atlanta coming up here to get their stories, just a few weeks ago when another Atlanta media outlet called the AJC came up and did a story he was kissing their butt left and right. Sounds a little hypocritical doesn't it? Evidently they're only welcome here if they agree with him. I think he's the one with the "poison pen".

Amen to that. I have said it before and I will say it again. If you get on his S---list, you've had it, he will do every thing in his power to discredit you. You will be blasted all over his paper. One example is a former commissioner who would not take any of his crap. Norm showed HIM.
I would also assume that he probably suggested, even wrote the letter for the child.

I doubt that.. take it for what its worth as genuine. The kids are TICKED off about what was said.. why dont you go and ask them? The school should be letting out in a short bit..

Talk about gettin on someones s***list.. the kids already have one letter out and it made perfect sence to me.

Also we knew that those who couldnt take the first and second go around with the board would have some kind of rah rah about that letter when we read it.lol and its exactly the same that we thought it would be.., ALL THOSE NAMES ARE FAKE... nah.. they are genuine... Its all Norms IDEA insinuating that the kids who are stepping up for themselves still cant think for themselves enough to write a dang letter..I think they deserve better than any of this crap that YALL have laid on them!

DOC, don't put me with the "y'all" crowd. I'm not bashing those kids for writing their letter, I say good for them for making their opinion known. My problem is with Norman and his idiotic editorial, he thinks that his opinion is perfect and anyone who doesn't agree with him is trash. I think he should see a doctor because he has a very severe case of the big-head.

This is in regard to the trend of some to bash Norman Cooper.

I do not agree with some on his positions or tactics but he does not deserve to be accused of mental illness or depraved meanness. AD HOMINEM attacks tell more about the attacker that the attackee.(check out http://www.thefreedictionary.com/ad+hominem) for an indepth description of them)

Argue with Norman aboout his syntax, his spelling, his logic, his politics, but if you castigate for some vague undefined PERSONAL PROBLEM, the arena on free speech is cluttered. Personal attacks only make the facts difficult to see.

BTW...I am not a fan of Norman or of what he says.

Norm was one of the first people to talk with the newsman from Atlanta when they showed up at the board meeting. I guess he thought they were going to get a "scoop" from him. He will never say anything negative about the county ... he knows which side his bread is buttered on. To say that those kids at the school did not know what they were signing is ridiculous. Maybe they were bribed to sign it with promises of seeing the pictures. lol That statement is as absurd as thinking the students were unaware of what was written on the paper they put their signatures on. We have to give our children more credit than some are saying on here. I know of several students that were asked to sign it but chose not to. Those signatures are the ones that count...not those from people that aren't even attending the school and are only out to stir up trouble. There were several good points made in the NGN (not by Norm) and was very impressed with Ms. Partin's letter.Go to Top of Page

Well, my two kids signed it, and when I asked them if they knew what they were signing they said "of course." When questioned further, my son, a senior, thought he was signing a petition to support Mr. Rorbaurgh. (He wasn't sure why, but he likes him, so he thought, "why not?") My freshman daughter was told it was a petition to protest against someone speaking for them at a board meeting without their approval. Both, by the way, are honor students. Neither of them were told or had a clue it had anything to do with the issue at hand, namely, their principal's transmission of pornography through school computers on school time. If anything, I guess this proves the argument that it didn't really have much impact on the students. Sure has us adults in a tizzy though!

I would dare say theyve heard the way you feel as you expressed it ever so evident here before the second go at the board and are intimidated by you cause my neices sure signed and are will to sign again... I think the parents should let the kids deside for themselves and not try to manipulate things.. cause my neices along with other students that I DO KNOW... they knew what it was for and what they knew and what we read in the paper are the same thing. Would you like to ask other students other than the ones you have any kind of power over about it because I am sure you will be surprised again... like Ive said before...

BUT... there could been some kids who didnt agree with mom and dad and went with their guts until today of course or yesterday when mom and pop spotted the names.... :( Thats sad! Really sad!

Give the young adults that are capable of dressing themselves, driving most of themselves and picking out colleges a chance to be their own person.

I have 4 kids. I have 4 good kids!
