I don't think Mt. Bldg. supply is that busy. Gary only goes there if he can't find it at builder's first source. He only uses HD for things that Builder's firstsource does not carry anymore. The prices at HD are not any cleaper. And if they don't have something, they will order it at Builder'sFirst!

Ok, so I saw the metal building and I have to say something about it, I LOVE IT. It doesnt look bad to me at all. It looks better than the block building that was as old as me they were in and it really isnt no different from the metal buildings that this Dollar General is in and they build every where and it works for them. It is not a plain jane one either.. they made it look like a nice place I think. Im saying this on my own terms and unbiased belief that it isnt that bad at all. BIG yes but not an eyesore by no means to me. The thing they were in before was an eye sore. Specially when I went to school in the old elem. building that some people woulda had a stroke if they had lived here then.lol and not meaning that mean either. and remember that block building (wasnt it a mechanics shop or parts place back then?) they were in back in the early 80s was nasty lookin back then. At least the painted it and put flower boxes out while they made do to get this building. :)

I think a new hardware would be a good thing.
The "small population" has nothing to do with competition.
Nelson's ace is basicly a feed and seed store. Home Depot in Blue Ridge is just that-it's in BlueRidge The Home Depot on Blairsville is not much better. I find that most builders and home "honey do-ers" will support the smaller stores, I know we do, they are easier to deal with and besides the "big stores" like home depot do not always carry what you need and they do not go out of their way to get it.
(Been there done that, asked and no way)
Builders source does very good business as does Mountain Building supply- because the local contractors use them. Home depot gets it's share-but it's not from the same folks everyday. They do well with the "week end warriors".

Time will tell, but building is what Blairsville does best right now and I doubt they can loose.

I wish any business luck in Blairsville. More jobs, more happy people. I comparisson shop Mountain Builder and Home Depot. Everyone just want a good deal. It's sometimes one and sometimes the other.

I have to admit that even home depot can beat out builder's first. gary paid $200 less for some wood at Home Depot and the saleman at Builders said he couldn't blame him. Just shop the best deal.

I think that the employees of Home Depot should be trained in just one dept. to start with. Like there should be someone that knows about tile, one that knows about paint, one that knows about plumbing, etc. They expect every employee to know about every dept. and that clearly is a hard thing to accomplish.

I think they are very knowledgeable Coosa, they've always answered my questions without hesitation.

I had a lot of them too finishing the downstairs.

Not sure if this is the right place, but I found this today and thought it is very true regardless of where you live.

QUOTE (FROM FOXNEWS.COM)
The Waiting Game
Wednesday, March 15, 2006
By Neil Cavuto

Tell me if this has ever happened to you:
You call a contractor with a problem.
He promises he'll be right out, but he leaves himself a pretty wide window: Between 12 and 5 p.m. on Saturday.
So between 12 and 5 p.m. that Saturday, you don't move. You don't budge.
At 12 o'clock, nothing.
At 1 o'clock, still nothing.
At 2 o'clock, same thing.
At 3 o'clock, the doorbell rings. But it's just your kids messing with 'ya.
By 5 o'clock, shock of shocks, the guy never shows up.
So you call, get an answering machine.
He calls you days later. He regrets the problem, something came up.
You're saying to yourself, "Yeah, like maybe, I hope, you died!?"
He never tells you the problem. It's his problem, after all. He can't be bothered with yours.
He reschedules, this time 9-12 p.m. next Saturday.
You say, "Go to hell."
You look in the phone book, for another contractor, another utility person, another cable guy. Different guys. Same story. If I've seen it once, I've seen it a thousand times.
You want to improve service in this country? I say, stick to appointments in this country!
I think there are a lot of media and phone companies these days scrambling to find out what's ailing them. I can tell them in two words: customer service.
Two more words: It stinks.
When you start treating customers like cattle, customers wander. You give us the bum steer, we'll tell you where you can stick that steer.
But first make an appointment for me. How about next Saturday, between 12 and 5 p.m?
Good for you? Great, I'll pencil you in.

Dad, thats on there sooo much on the news, that and fraudulent work.

We spoke to a lawyer in atlanta once upon a time and he said that down there,... the Construction work force is one of the hardest businesses to run. Basically said its a DAMN IF YOU DO AND DAMN IF YOU DONT industry down there.. as far as people wanting something for nothing that is... and people trying to get more out of builders than they really projected to give causing issues too... like saying this does not work or that window needs moved. Now Im sure this incedent that youve copied and pasted... Im sure that there coulda been very good legitiment reasons it got reported to the news and the news furthered it... theyve covered some really good points and then... theyve filled in spots a time or two also...

I am not trying to be too defensive but theres always but ALWAYS two sides to every story. Sometimes one side is in depth and highlighted to where it over shadows the other side.

Daughter, the point of the article is that in a service industry or craft industry, if you say you are going to meet a customer at such and such a time, then you need the be there. Don't leave the customer hanging in the wind waiting. At least call them and let them know you are not going to be able to make it today and reset the date and time if possible.

Cherry has a lot of experience with that happening in her basement, if I recall correctly.

When my husband promises to meet someone or do something, he is always on time or early, at an exact time. We both have a thing about being late. In 22 years of doing this business, he has never been late one time!

The new hardware store will be approx. 7 1/2 acres in size. Of course not building size but yard size and store included. Within the city limits. Easy access so it seems at the moment.

I heard yesterday that the new Hardware store will be where that old house is being torn down, right in front of the sewage treatment plant.(north on 129.) That might create a traffic problem there.

There will be another accessable way into it besides right there. From the way it sounds it will probably have several entrances/exits. So we'll see.

Triple!! If we did, we would have retired by now.!! We made $7000 on the first one and $6500 on the second one!! We are resonable, I tell you!! Anyway, we just heard about the new store and since the money comes out of our pocket, we will certainly check them out.
