I have been coming up to Blairsville at least once a month (or more) for the past 10 years. I spend very little time in downtown Blairsville. I think the downtown needs to become more tourist friendly. More like downtown Blue Ridge. I know that if that happens, there will be a lot of places where locals will not bother to go. But if Blairsville could get more visiters to spend a few hours walking around the downtown, they could get a few more of those tourist dollars to stay there. Right now, I see nothing that makes people want to go to the downtown area on a Saturday afternoon. yea open a walmart for us locals & let visitors have downtown

Wish we could change it! It is a pretty tight group that is opposed to that! We tried, and didnt care for the treatment! One thing is a sense of humor and humility! Entrepreneurs dont like getting messed with! and wasting $$$... Rumers and heresay dont help! Communicate and get a true idea.. Than try change. It happens, no matter how hard one fights it! The downtown is beautiful, but please start to accept others ideas. Know matter how strange it may seem! Learn to listen and discuss, to be more open to new ideas and issues. Not to shun and be dissappreciative of others thoughts! Fred

If Blue Ridge could do it, so can Blairsville. They even took those ugly old railroad tracks and turned that into something touristy.

The question is, "Does Blairsville want to do it?" The county and city seem to be growing despite a lack of of a touristy downtown.Shadow FWIW, JOMO. YMMV!

Some seem to want it. I don't even care if it attracts tourists or not. I just think there needs to be something besides a pawn shop, accountant, gas station, beverage place etc. around the square. I am sure the committee working on this will come up with some good ideas.

Well Blairsville can't keep industry so that leaves....pawn shops and other non-service oriented businesses. Be happy...they managed to regulate tattoo shops out of the area so that type business won't be on the square...neither will manufacturing exist in the county.Economic development is going to equal a nice tax on the local population and a nice "favor" for the "buddies" of politics.
