Following a report of five police cars speeding down 515 west from town, a check of the scanner showed they were chasing a blue motorcycle. After chasing up Loving Rd, then Mull, then back down Jonica Gap, then a few side roads there and finally onto Tate Rd where the perpetrator is heading North and seems to be trying to cross the state line. Listening to the chase, it seems apparent that this motorcyclist knows that area very well. It's uncertain whether the police or the motorcyclist will come out victorious. Update: he's heading South on 129 instead, towards Poteete's. This person is traveling fast. I wouldn't want to get in either his way or the police's at this point. Update: looks like the motorcyclist made it into North Carolina. Units without a visual on the suspect have been advised to terminate the pursuit. Update: A police car appears to have blown an engine during the pursuit, but it sounded like it was a Blue Ridge or Fannin County unit rather than from Union County. The motorcyclist was wearing a light jacket with the letters "VIKON" or "VICON" and has a yellow helmet with flames on it.

Motorcycle went screaming past Cubby's house just as she was getting her stuff out of the truck. Of course I was ringing the phone off the hook to tell her to go inside and lock the doors in case he crashed and tried to hide there.God makes the lightning Bikers make the thunder

Thanks for the clarification. End result was the same though: a wrecker had to haul it away! The last report I heard was that Cherokee County (NC) officers had lost sight of the person while seemingly heading South on 129 again towards Union County. Did anyone hear anything about how this all started? I kind of got the impression that Fannin County is where this all started.

All I know is the cops went flying past me on 515 headed towards Blue Ridge. One could of caused a collision at the redlight if the other driver hadn't been defenceful in their driving. I know it was a "chase" but they sure wasn't going to get anything faster by causing another accident.I'm too blessed to be stressed! |

They were headed south at one point on John Smith East then a minute or two later the motorcycle headed north on John Smith with the two cop cars close behind. One was a white Sheriff's car and the other a dark blue. Glad I was home and wasn't trying to go anywhere.

I missed the beginning of it all on the scanner. All I know is Topaz said something about John Smith Rd. and gunpoint so I hung up, turned on the scanner and called Cubby. Tried to call Fawn too but her phone was busy.God makes the lightning Bikers make the thunder

I heard the "gunpoint" comment too, but dismissed it because I knew they were traveling at a good rate of speed still. I got the impression the police officer was suggesting that officers ahead at the intersection could have the motorcyclist at gunpoint if the motorcyclist kept going the same direction.

We were on our way through loving road when this was taking place.. the State Trooper was going TOO fast and wasnt chasing at that time ANYTHING in front of him.. he was trying to make timing to help out I guess.. he was going probably as fast as his car would go and on the wrong side of the road.. Hunnys dad said he heard on the scanner that his State trooper car blew up.. I understand persuit but this was a motorcycle.. and there had to have been almost every on duty county officer out there.. and no, you wouldnt had wanted to be on the roads.. we didnt see ever see the motorcycle but the cops were everywhere waiting on it.. Loving road isnt a great road but it does cut through to Blue Ridge easier.. I just want to know who put the stripes on the road..lol!Anne Frank said,

I sure want to know why the high speed chase. This guy better be wanted for some heinous crime otherwise there is no good reason for a high speed chase that endangers life. MAC...do you have any info on this that you can share?

This sounded pretty exciting. I know what I want for my birthday now! A scanner. If it was one of those crotch rockets, they should have just given up on the chase. Maddy, They had road blocks up and he knew how to get through them evidentally. Or by pass them was what I heard. I'm too blessed to be stressed! |

Well Hello Teach!lol Your end of the story would have probably been how it ended with all the excitement that chase lead to on loving road... we didnt know what the heck was happening or why untill hunny called his daddy.. kinda felt like THE DUKES OF HAZZARD skit that we jumped into... people were standing in their driveways with the looks on their face of the end of the world coming.. Fawn, I agree with you and Maddy completely. Maddy, those scanners are informative but people sure do get carried away with what they hear verses what they think they hear.lol! I have to laugh about that too in some ways. I am glad that hunnys daddy took the one out of the party room down stairs so we can enjoy our gatherings a lil bit more... Anne Frank said,

I hate scanners. Grew up listening to them when I was young. Literally made me so nervous and I didn't have kids on the road then. Now, I hear our name is popular on there so I'll let everyone call me to ask whats going on! LOL!I'm too blessed to be stressed! |

LOL! Lady.. if hunnys dad hears our last name and usually they only say last names on there.. haha! We get phone calls thats the part I am laughing about cause apparently the people with our last names that live out Gum Log are popular on there as well! sigh

Hi everyone! Just getting on...been so busy past couple a days haven't had a chance! And, YES, I was just coming in, with the boys, from baseball practice, and went back outside to get some stuff out of the truck and the motorcycle went FLYING by...it startled me, 'cause it was going sooooooooooooo fast...next thing I know...one cop car blaring by, then another, then another, and yet another! The boys came running out (yelling, as little boys would "that is so cool"), and the dog was going nuts. Then, my oldest said "mom, the phone's ringing"...and sure, enough, it was PCM calling to tell me to get inside and lock up! (Thanks for looking out for us, PCM!) :) Anyways, I KNEW it wasn't just a cop trying to catch a speeder! So, what's up with it? Any news on what the heck was happening?!?!
