WF, my memory is telling me 1986 but I don't always trust my memory. I have some materials at home with the actual date on it but it will be awhile before I get to them. Hopefully someone else can confirm before then. Shadow |

I think 515 was built around 1980-1981 because I graduated from high school in 1981 and there is a picture of the first traffic light in Blairsville (on 515) in my yearbook on the page about things that happened that year. |

I got to thinking about this and I am probably wrong. I think that road was 76 then and it went through where the Park & Ride is now. The traffic light is in the same place it was, but I think 515 (the 4-lane) was built a few years later. Shadow, you are probably right, as usual. Of course, you're younger than me so you can remember better. LOL |

If memory serves correct, I believe 515 was finished late in the year of 1987Life is short! Forgive quickly! Kiss slowly! Love truly! Laugh uncontrollably! And never regret anything that made you smile... |

AS most of you know I have critized Union concerning snow removal. I will however commend, just a quickly as I critize. On Monday morning after the big snow, our road was scraped, or snow plowed, before 8am, and a sand/gravel truck was on site shortly. Now our road is kinda desolate, only 6 families on entire road and only part is county maintained. It was not the perfect driving road, but under the conditions it was passable. Even though I am still passionate against the sole commissioner form of government, the commissioner's decision to use private contractor's was the right one. Union's limited resources were getting overwhelmed. So, maybe the commissioner read the forum and took the correct and immediate action. He is to be congratulated on his foresite. Shucks |

Again, after this "I" better shut up on thread. Today would be the 1st day that I could safely get out to Ivy Log/129 (10th day and plenty of supplies). Sweet Union County Native young lady tried to make it here yesterday and had to have dad bring her home. Not complaining - really - I just didn't think when I bought property. I suggested to "rich-town related" neighbor to call road dept for a scrape (Fannin did it for residents) - They did come a day later but scrape didn't work as we still had 1" ice. Anyway, I am most fortunate I don't have to get to a job daily but...Please explain as I am not criticizing but just DON'T understand - Why do I "pay" the same amount of taxes as those who get helped but I don't get the benefits? Again, not complaining just trying to understand the services besides, I am a hermit and wont' leave anyway. Woofs for responses please..

Woof, I am far from being priviledged and got our road cleared. I said the road was passable,it was but to 4 wheel drives and tire chains, of which I have neither. I just got my car out of my driveway Tuesday of this week. However, I had plenty of food, a full tank of LP, a cable that worked and the internet. So, let it sno, I am OK as long as the chocolate latte holds out. Shucks |

Rather than praising the commissioner for finally doing something beneficial,it might indicate what he hasn't done in the past.IT reminds me of a person looking for a pat on the back for kicking the smoking habit.Next Thursday will be my last day in the holy land of North Georgia.Where I am heading, there will be no garbage littering the streets,no one stealing tax money, garbage pick-up twice a week, doctors that are proficient in their jobs,no more Barney Fife type police force and people that hate me because of where I came from and what I believe or don't believe, and numerous places to spend money ,such as olive garten, red lobster and stores for my wife to shop.If this means I am complaining, that's exactly what it is.Those that are happy living here I am sharing your happiness.I expect more from my life and it isn't available here.WRJ RealistWilliam R.Jenkins |

I know I won't. The air got a lot cleaner since Jenkins left. You can't smell so much sulfur.Shelby |
