Mountainguy, great retrospective!!!!

I just read the article published in the NGN(this is a paid advertisement and no critism of NGN).

As for as the Citizens for an Alcohol Free Community, is Union free of alcohol now? Did I miss something or is everyone a tetotaler?

I have never in all my years read an article so full of hogwash( I am trying to keep this clean), mis information , half truths and no truths and unsubstantiated information.

Not selling alcohol in Union is not going to change the status quo of the people who already drink.

If the the so called Citizens for an Alcohol Free Community would be honest with themselves, a good percentage do drink alcohol beverages.

I cannot believe free thinking, educated people would be a party to this group. I am not condemning churches, even though some of their teachings are wrong and are cult based, they are just as easily led as the Citizens for an Alcohol Free Community.

I am still ranting and raving about the stupidity of this article.

You have a group named "Citizens For An Alcohol Free Community"?

How have they managed to convince themselves that they can make the community alcohol free?

They don't live in Union County; they live in Fantasy Land.

I think this is just another case of a small minority being able to forced their bias views because the silent majority are to lazy to stand up for their rights. Look around at whats happening in this country. This country is not in the decline because of crooked politicians. We are in this shape because people either don't bother to vote or they don't even know who they are voting for. Like lambs to the slaughter.Go to Top of Page

I'll second that motion.

I had forgotten all about the upcoming vote. Guess that's why my comments and article were deleted?

When will the results be made public? Anyone?

Oh boy! The times they are achangin'. I had no idea.

I honestly never understood the need to control other people's behavior so long as they are not harming someone else in the process. I mean, a man's home is his castle.

Think I'll head over to the Ingle's in Hayesville for some beer this afternoon. I won't buy from the Ingle's in Hiawassee any more because I get sick and tired of showing my ID before making a purchase.

It may seem trivial to some folks but I find it aggravating.

No,I don't think it's trivial in the least.I have been asked for my identify,at the ABC in Murphie. If a person needs to verify my age fron an ID card, they need to be committed to a mental institution or Alabama. Most of the time ,when asked for identity,I say I don't have a drivers license,I just got out of prison for killing three liars.WRJ

My guess is Bill will post them Gray.

I usually use the same excuse when it comes to the "showing of my papers." I don't drive now what? If they say they need to see ID I just say thanks but no thanks. I'll take my business elsewhere.

Recently I was asked for my driver's license.I said,"i have no drivers license ,I rode my mule here",the response was ,"can I see the picture of your mule?A driver's license was never intended to be used as every day identification, only associated with operating a motor vehicle.WRJ

"Nosey" Woof asked the cashier at Ingles in Hiawassee why they
always carded - reason was they got caught selling booze to
underagers and part of the plea deal was the carding.

Now the truth comes out. Ya know I got the same story from a waitress at the Pontoon Saloon. She tried to tell me it was the law now anyway that they have to card everyone.  I was born at night but, it wasn't last night.
cool
  It ain't the law.

Ingles even wanted my social security for that discount card now that I think about it. What the h***? Glad I gave up smoking!

Why should the majority have to suffer for the sins
of a few?

Dog tricks for you: When you want a discount card you make
up information - they track your purchases - another trick
that may be fun to use: When asked your date of birth (that is usually what they do) surprise them with something like 5-1-02. Dogs really like to play tricks. PS Don't pick on me Mr. J - remember I got first degree at MSU and Spartans can spear gators for sure...

Looks like the next great battle will be the "sale of alcoholic beverages" on Sunday in Georgia. Bill will be introduced in this session of Congress.

The polls say the 78% of the Atlanta metro area approve. Below Macon about 70% disapprove--Get the picture.

As Union grows and 515 continues to build the blur between metro Atlanta and Union will meet head on. Remember, Atlanta is the engine that runs Georgia and what Atlanta wants it usually gets.

Doesn't the bill, if passed, allow for the sale on Sunday, subject to local vote?

I read the commissioners column in last week's NGN news. As you all know the house is voting on a bill to allow alcohol sales on Sunday by referendum. I expect it to pass in all the metro areas. The commissioner flatly stated he would never approve it in Union county. Commissioner, it is NOT up to you to approve anything in this county. All the bill does is to allow a vote, and you should put on ballot.

His statement is the prime reason that the sole commissioner form of government is outdated, outmoded and dictatorial. What ever happened to the right to vote. Does it apply everywhere but Union and what ever the commissioner's personal feeling are?

Remember, the sun doesn't shine on the same dog all the time. Just ask Mubarak in Egypt and Tunisia, another dictatorial leader who did not allow the citizens to vote and look what happened to them.
Thats what a sole person in charge is, a dictatorship and it has got to change for the betterment of Union county.

Even teeny tiny little Hayesville allows the purchase of wine/beer on Sunday after 12:00 noon.

And the earth didn't even falter in it's orbit.
