Yesterday on Armed Forces Day, the Union County Historical Society and Downtown Development Authority came together and helped tie yellow and red, white, & blue ribbons onto the lampposts around the downtown area in remembrance and support of the many men and women of the armed forces who are stationed away from loved ones in defense of our country and freedoms.

Special placards were filled out by family members for relatives who are currently serving in the military and a short ceremony was held on the historic old courthouse grounds.

Janet Hartman, Program Manager for the Downtown Development Authority, introduced Mayor Jim Conley, who spoke some nice words in support of our military personnel and then introduced Bob Huggins. Bob Huggins is the Chaplain for the North Georgia Honor Guard and delivered the invocation. Then Hubert Moss sang a very good rendition of the national anthem while the participants and spectators covered their heart with their right hands.

The ceremony ended with some brief concluding words. The placards were then moved from outside into the old courthouse for protection against the weather.

Here are pictures captured from the day's event:

Very nice, Bill!  Thank you for these picture and for being there in support and memory of those who have served, past and present, in the protection of our country.

Next weekend is Memorial Day weekend.  Are there plans to place flags at the memorial in Blairsville?
