Statement as of 11:08 AM EDT on October 19, 2008

... Freeze warning remains in effect from 2 am to 9 am EDT
Monday...

A freeze warning remains in effect from 2 am to 9 am EDT Monday. A
freeze is most likely for areas along and north of a Helen... to
Dahlonega... to Blue Ridge line.

A cold dome of high pressure will become centered over north
Georgia Monday morning... resulting in clear skies and calm winds.
This will allow temperatures to fall quickly during the evening...
with lows reaching the low 30s across the warned area by Monday
morning. A freeze will be most likely in the valleys of the
northeast Georgia mountains.

A freeze warning means freezing temperatures are forecast to
threaten outdoor plants. Those with agricultural interests in the
warned area are advised to harvest or protect tender vegetation.

It is cold here in the mountains! I had to scrape ice off my windshield before I went to church this morning.
I picked all the tomatoes, green beans, and peppers from my garden yesterday, so none of those got frozen.Go to Top of Page

Slept on Trey Mountain Tuesday Night. 17 degrees. Snow Flurries on the way up. Left the Mountain on Wednesday. Thanks to the folks at Hiawassee Inn for a ride and hot coffee. Walked too far. It was too cold. I knew better. Beautiful Area. I'll be back next year better prepared and two weeks earlier.
