I've been wondering about this subject for a long time.

I know they've been doing this in Europe for a long time. I had no idea the local stores were promoting this, and frankly I'm pleasantly surprised.

Besides the anti-litter effect, plastic is made from petroleum, so not having to buy them will save the stores money as petroleum gets more expensive.

no frettin' why not use a plastic bag as a liner outside of the paper bag, then when the plastic bag needs washing, rinse it out in the sink with the water you have saved for such a purpose.....

I title this part "she'll know from now on!"
After dinner in Hiawassee tonight, went to shop at Ingles. When I asked the cashier to please use "paper" (because I forgot my canvas bags)she turned to a bagger on the next isle over to come and bag for her because "I don't know how to bag in paper". So the bagger came over, and showed her.

You gotta be kidding! I sure hope she learned.  Wish I knew which one she was so I could see if the lesson took!

double bag the plastic bags and wear on your feet when mopping/waxing your floors.

wear as gloves when staining or painting.
