Expires 1:00 PM EST on January 17, 2008
Statement as of 3:56 AM EST on January 16, 2008

... An icy mix of precipitation expected this evening through
tomorrow morning...

... Winter Storm Watch in effect from this evening through
Thursday afternoon...

The National Weather Service in Peachtree City has issued a Winter Storm Watch... which is in effect from this evening through Thursday afternoon. The Winter Storm Watch is in effect for the northeast Georgia mountains from Blue Ridge... Ellijay and Jasper eastward to Dawsonville... Dahlonega... Blairsville... Hiawassee and Cleveland.

The precipitation is expected to start by late this afternoon or
early this evening as a mixture of snow... sleet and rain. Snow and sleet accumulations between an inch and two inches are possible. After midnight the precipitation is likely to change to a mixture of rain... sleet and freezing rain and continue into the mid morning hours before changing to all rain by midday.

A Winter Storm Watch means there is a potential for significant
snow... sleet... or ice accumulations that will impact travel.
Continue to monitor the latest forecasts.

Get those pots of hearty stews and chilis going, throw some biscuits in the oven and bundle up! It's going to be cold and wet and nothing but trouble on the roads! Stay warm and safe all!

Wahoo! But, seriouslly y'all be careful out there on the roads. We're in for the night here. Hubby wants to go to the gym, which he still may but nothing is happening right now.
I bought the last of the duraflame logs at bilo. I'm so afraid we'll run out of wood!

My cousin just called, from Cumming in Forsyth County (about an 1 1/2 hours south of us) and the snow is coming down right now. It's on it's way folks! Plus, saw the news and those were some big flakes coming down in Atlanta!

Yeah, only problem Sam, is that if it turns to the freezing rain, it won't be fun! Let's hope the ice stays away!

I hope the roads will remain safe for everyone. The DOT is really good about getting out here on time & they are ready to roll now. It's the crazies out there that think they can still drive like they usually do; wild! It's just not going to work out for them, but they end up hurting others in the process.

I know, I told hubby that I was worried about him going to work in it tomorrow, and he told me "don't worry, I am careful" and I said "yeah, but is everyone else out there?"

I just called my sister. She lives in Rex (near clayton county) and she said that it's crazy with snow there & now it's sleeting. It looks like sand on the ground!! Told her to send me a picture, but she won't do it while she's driving!! LOL I told her to wait until she got home in her driveway!!!

Well my husband just left driving 70 miles to work tonight instead of waiting till morning. He wanted to wait till morning but people kept calling him and sending him pictures from down there so he finally decided to go on. He wasn't too happy because he'll have to sleep on the couch tonight. My lil girl is still crying and wailing because daddy left and that was not in her plan.

Puddin, what kind of work does your hubby do?? I hate he had to travel tonight for work. But if it's a must that he gets there i'd rather him travel tonight than in the morning when roads could be tricky!

Sam, he's a paramedic, so they have to go even if they have to come in early. They mentioned to him Monday he needed to come early if the weather was bad. He made it over there fine and now won't be home till Saturday.

...ANOTHER ROUND OF WINTER WEATHER HEADED FOR NORTH GEORGIA...

A STORM SYSTEM IS EXPECTED TO DEVELOP OVER THE NORTHERN GULF OF
MEXICO ON FRIDAY...SPREADING PRECIPITATION ACROSS GEORGIA FRIDAY
NIGHT...WITH THE LOW CENTER TRACKING FROM SOUTH GEORGIA TO THE
CAROLINA COAST ON SATURDAY. COOL TEMPERATURES ARE ALREADY IN
PLACE ACROSS NORTH GEORGIA...AND EVEN COOLER AIR PUSHING INTO THE
AREA FRIDAY NIGHT AND SATURDAY MAY ALLOW THE PRECIPITATION TO
BEGIN AS SNOW OR QUICKLY TRANSITIONING FROM RAIN TO SNOW LATE
FRIDAY NIGHT. SNOW ACCUMULATIONS ARE POSSIBLE ACROSS MUCH OF NORTH
GEORGIA LATE FRIDAY NIGHT AND SATURDAY MORNING...MAINLY ALONG AND
NORTH OF INTERSTATE 85 OR ROUGHLY ALONG A LINE FROM CARROLLTON TO
GAINESVILLE. SOME UNCERTAINTY EXISTS WITH RESPECT TO THE AMOUNT
AND LOCATION OF ACCUMULATING SNOW. LATER FORECASTS WILL PROVIDE
ADDITIONAL DETAILS ON EXACTLY HOW MUCH SNOWFALL WILL
OCCUR...THOUGH INITIAL INDICATIONS SUGGEST THAT SNOW AMOUNTS IN
EXCESS OF AN INCH OR TWO ARE POSSIBLE.
