Spam, I do not know of another local phone service. I do know that Windstream is absolutely terrible. their cable is the pits and their customer service is abismal.

I was involved in a 3 month battle over my cable and phone bill and what were they doing with my payments. All my bills are paid by a 3rd party bill paying service and Windstream was applying both cable and phone bills to the same account. It took three months to get them to put the money in the correct account. They never gave me a reason why the snafu, other than they did not recognize the check even though it had may account number and name.Thry also said their accounting system was not set up to recognize Quicken checks. A lame excuse.

Hopefully, based on what I read in the Wall Street Journal they are looking for a buyer. If we get lucky maybe Bell South will buy the system and get a real cable system with bundling.

We decided to "Green Streak"...I took all the phones out of the house. We use only our cell phones. Internet is all I pay.

I have noticed a big difference since Alltel became Windstream. It's sad because I think the guys that respond are so great and so is the local office but the Windstream office is pathetic with customer service.

Amen, Country. Customer service , wherever it is, is big time bad.

I personally have never had a problem with Windstream.  In fact, last time I called to find out about blocking a call from someone who thought we were someone we weren't, the customer service lady gave me a bundle price that sped up my internet & made my phone bill go down $8 mo.!

The service is not the problem it is the huge price. We have three bills from them and they all went up this time. Their advertising price is ridiculous.

I changed plans a few months back, and got pne of the bundles...unlimited local/long distance w/dsl.  The price with taxes should be around $80 a month,  I've received 1 bill at just under that amount.  The others since, are around $93.00.
I just checked my bill and there's a $3.63 charge for LD...and the statement: 'certain restrictions apply'.
Guess we're stuck tho until..(if ever), another phone service provider comes along.

Oops! I just now seen I said "Spam" and it was "moon&stars" I should be referencing too. Another thing I wanted to add on the "internet only"...I still have phone service. IF I NEED IT! In other words. You keep a dial tone. For 911 purposes. You keep your phone number. And anyone can call you free of charge but IF you call OUT then it's so many cents per minute. Since we use our cellphones, We personally didn't have a reason to pay for phone service. Other than keeping an open "life line"...I took all the phones out. So that way "MY YOUNGEST" who thinks that "EVERYTHING IS FREE" wouldn't abuse the call out system. That way I am not paying for two phone services and only for what I need. I like that way much better. I absolutely hate talking on the telephone now. So...It was a "Sigh of relief" for me to just get rid of telephones and the cost in general.
