• The CMP is used as a broad screening tool to evaluate organ function and check for conditions such as diabetes, liver disease, and kidney disease. It tests for liver function, kidney function, electrolytes, and glucose levels.


• The lipid profile is often called a fractionated cholesterol test. It includes total cholesterol, HDL-cholesterol (often called good cholesterol), LDL-cholesterol (often called bad cholesterol), and triglycerides. Patients must complete a 12 hour fast prior to the test. Only water is allowed during the fasting period. Patients should take their regular prescriptions, unless directed otherwise by their physician.


• The TSH is used to screen for and help diagnose thyroid disorders, to monitor treatment of hypothyroidism and hyperthyroidism.


• The CBC is used as a broad screening test to check for such disorders as anemia, infection, and many other diseases, It includes the red blood cell count, hemoglobin, hematocrit, white blood cell count, and platelet count.


• The PSA is a screening test for prostate cancer. This test is only available for men.
