Here is a new topic, since we were getting off-topic.

Perhaps Admin can transfer the posts on Designer Threads over here?

OK wildflower, I won't leave a girl hanging.

I just had lunch with a friend from Towns county and she said that they have had 25 robberies in the last 2 weeks in Towns County. One of them was a couple of nights ago at a friend of ours in the crafts guild. She does decorative painting and her huband does woodworking.

It seems that the lack of law enforcement is encouraging criminals to work overtime.

You live there, go play Nancy Drew.

It's too difficult to transfer individual posts, which is one the the reasons we try to be sticklers about staying on topic.

Here's the links to the news items on it though:

Towns County and Hiawassee is like the music business, "the hits just keep on coming".

If it wasn't so serious it would be a laughing matter. How can one county stir up so much controversy in such a short length of time? The good people of Towns should be embarrassed and request the DOT to change Hwy 76 to reversible lanes so more of them could leave.

I do feel sorry for the respectable folks in Towns County.

I remember the invasion we had here with the ABC's and the news reporters during the Rudy hunt.

What a pain those folks were.

Yeah, Paper, I'm just a laugh a minute in real life.

I've been out-of-pocket all day, so I only just now had a chance to look at the "reaction story" video.

Wow.

I wonder if this is the same woman who posted on the Topix site that her "Louis Vuitton" handbag was falling apart. She said she asked the owner of Designer Threads how she could get such great prices. She was told that Designer Threads doesn't mark up the merchandise as much as department stores do.

Now that's a bold lie if I ever heard one.

I had to laugh about the fake Tiffany jewelry though. Hellooooo, the ONLY place you can purchase Tiffany merchandise is inside a Tiffany store or on the Tiffany web site.

That's the meaning of "exclusive", and if Tiffany isn't exclusive, I don't know who is. ;)

Plus, their Robins egg blue boxes are tied up with a white satin bow that you can untie with one pull. It's their signature touch.

It's embarrassingly comical.

Wish I knew how to find out her name on EBAY.  You know those bags have to be sold somewhere!!! My guess is on ebay.

Now, why in the world wasn't there a mention of it in the paper in Towns County? Was that the Sentinal or the "other"?

Maddy I will just bet you could go to her house and she would be glad to unload them in a hurry.

At a really good price.

WF, there's a lot of people out there that don't know what a fake looks like.  There's so many GOOD fakes out there, it's really hard to tell.  There's Tiffany's out there with the "tiffany & co." on the back & all.

I had a good friend try to tell the gal at Martin's in town that the Louis Vitton's were knock-off's, but she said they weren't.  They are! You can tell with the stitching and where the pattern's don't line up.  I don't think she's doing anything wrong, but she just doesn't know they are not the "real deal".

Maddy, the part that had me laughing, is that anyone would think they could get Tiffany products anywhere else but at Tiffany! Does not matter how good the fake is. If you didn't buy it at Tiffany, then it's not genuine.

(Not counting Tiffany sold as antiques or at estate sales.)

You can't even get Tiffany in Neiman Marcus, let alone some place in a small town like Designer Threads.

Also . . .

Someone on the Topix thread tried to defend the owner, saying maybe she didn't know the handbags were fake.

That's so funny. An owner of a retail business would KNOW how to have an authentic business relationship with the authentic company. They would be dealing with a REPRESENTATIVE of that company.

If they go to an apparel mart on a regular basis, they would only be in contact with the proper people.

And of course the owner of Designer Threads knows this. That's why she admitted to the undercover reporter that they were fake.

Besides, people who went on school field trips with her said she used to buy fakes from street vendors in New York.

I don't know what kind of person she is. Maybe she is a good person in the rest of her life. Maybe she is unfamiliar with all the issues surrounding counterfeit handbags, like sweatshops, and funding for terrorist groups.

http://www.smartpursestips.com/Counterfeit-Handbags-and-Terrorism/content/11116

http://www.chinatownconnection.com/fake_designer_handbags.htm

But when I see her friends concocting these LAME excuses for her, it's insulting to one's intelligence. And when I see them going on and on about what a great Christian she is, and saying she only made a "mistake" and it's "only purses so it's not important", I have to go put boots on, because it's getting a little "deep".

Years of lying to customers about what they are buying is not a momentary "mistake"; it's long-term intent to deceive.

To even charge as much as $100.00+ for some badly-constructed fake handbag that cost her practically nothing, is stealing from people.

Money isn't the root of all evil, it's greed.

She should resign from the school board and offer to refund anyone who ever bought a handbag.

Both the owner of Designer Threads and her husband should be in jail right now! That is terrible that he tried to run down Jim Strickland and his cameraman with his truck!

She is a felon & so is her husband. It was wrong to do as they have done. She lied, ripped off people & is now having to pay the earthly price of her sins. Good.

The thing that has amazed me the most is that people are supporting her. If it had been some black lady in ATLANTA, those people would be calling for prison time. But since it is a friend --- a local, "God fearin' " white lady in Towns County --- they want to just let it slide. That is hypocrisy.

Its funny all round. Was anyone really decieved? These fakes sell for exactly $20-25 on the streets of NYC. Anyone know what she was charging?

If someone wanted to spend $100 for a porly cunstructed item that they were able to inspect simply because of the brand label THEN THEY GOT WHAT THEY PAID FOR, didnt they? It wasnt like they were bait and switched? If they were happy at the time they purchased it they should still be happy.

Anyone who spends big bucks for something pooely cunstructed because its "brand name" is a sucker..

I have to say though, the knockoff stuff I saw while living in NYC and my wife has had a few are great quality items for $20.

My sister was in China visiting friends and there were two level's of knock offs. The cheap ones for $5 that are sold here and the real things available for about $30 u.s. smugled out of the factories that make them for the designers.

I agree with Spam.  Also, you can always drive down to Maimi and buy any "knock off" designer item you want, even out of someone's van or car.  I'm serious.  There is this fellow who rides his bike on the boardwalk on the beach selling them.  What a hoot!  I have never been to "Designer Threads", but come on, if it sounds too good to be true.........................................

But the law says that it is a felony to sell copyrighted goods under a designer label. She held herself out as doing so. Perhaps these "suckers" did get what they paid for, but what they got was illegal in the 1st place. Those folks that didn't know these were fake got ripped. It matters not if they "should have known" or not: the law is there to protect customers from unfair practices.

The lady has been lying about this for years. She is felon & deserves jail time just like the guy selling fakes in Miami or NYC.

The boy is right.

It's not nice to take advantage of a customer's lack of knowledge.

Sure, it would be great if people weren't so insecure that they need a label to make them feel accepted.

For $100.00, you can get a beautifully designed and constructed handbag from one of the smaller designers in department stores. For that matter, you can pay a lot less and get quality.

I have one Nine West purse that I paid about $25.00 for around 1998. It has held up so well, I can't justify throwing it out. In fact, it held up better than the Dooney and Burke designer bag that I received as a gift at the same time.

You can also go online and find private artisans that use the most beautiful leather and create their own unique designs for more reasonable prices.

I have a couple of Coach purses, but I bought wisely at the outlet store & go straight to the clearance section.  Some people just don't know that you don't see Tiffany in other places other than Tiffany stores.

The woman needs to be fined, in jail, held accountable for her "mistake"!  (rolling my eyes here!)  Hubby told me that some locals were talking about it to them at the yacht club the other night and they said that the news edited that whole scene where he's trying to back up on the news guy.  I don't believe that at all!

Umm.. Ive bought many of pairs of KEDS shoes there.. and some clothing.. never was a big purse person unless they were on sale at walmart..lol!

Ive always known them to have the fake Louies.. you could tell they were fake.. never picked one up to examine them.. but they have been there for years and years now.. dont know about a Gucci tho.. anyways.. I shopped there for shoes.. cause I never seen a place with such a wonderful selection and price as there.. Never thought much of the purses other than, I didnt buy the real thing, didnt want the fake either.. and gosh.. what was up with them anyways cause several flea markets carried them also who were not affiliated to this woman.. so it just was never a big to do for me.. and now I have asked my sister in law because I havent read these threads.. and she says that there was a woman who went in there while reporting about the Sheriff stuff and found them..

EIK! Glad I am not a big purse person.. cause IF I didnt know anybetter.. and was.. I woulda thought woo hoo! I found the greatest deal!lol!

Well I did.. but they were on shoes.. and now I do wonder about those Keds.lol! O well.. its been a while since Ive been in there..

That's because some people will defend her no matter what.

The video footage sure didn't look edited to me. And if it was edited, then why did the witness seem so alarmed by what she saw?

(Hey, Maddy, at least Coach doesn't stick their logo all over their merchandise in such a way that all you see is a logo. They are probably one of the most worthwhile designers because they are subtle and timeless instead of trendy.)
