vis a vis my post, "Presumption of innocence" refers to the same concept as "innocent until proven guilty." No matter which term is used, it still isn't reality.

The answer to the CSI question is "not enough information."

Guilt or innocence at law is very different than factual guilt or innocence, so the former convict may very well be innocent; its a lot more common than most people realize.

Someone can be a prime suspect without being placed under arrest. If so, then sure there is the presumption of innocence. Once arrested, presumption of guilt attaches in order to justify restriction of rights and freedoms... at least until trial.

As for the "third person in the show" ... thats just to make the point that no one "should" be presumed guilty even though they are.

Most people get a bond.... Last bit of freedom for awhile I assume! Maybe they can get theirselves on the right path and help a few people in prison. I know not all will agree, but God can use people in prison. Does not mean they do not deserve anything less then they are going to get, it means that he can use to convicted felons (yes I know innocent till proven guilty) to help others get their lives straight. I would rather hear about that then the other crazy stuff that goes on in there.

I hope that something positve (besides drugs off our street) can come out of this.

WHAT!!!????
You are kidding I hope. Why do you put these crud bags up like they can walk on water and may be gods chosen ones? They are going to go into prison and change bad mens hearts'.......is that what you're thinking? Im rolling on the floor laughing. I don't care how great you think their dady's are. If the charges are true, these are bad people and not the second coming of Christ who will save souls in prison.

I will pray for them, but dont expect greatness from them.

Even worse, Recovering Attorney, is that an attorney I once worked for said that by no means does everyone get an equal chance at justice in the court system.

Money plays a large role.

Heck, lots of attorney's won't even take cases that aren't profitable for them, even if the person has a legitimate case.

We should all keep the Stephens and Nichols families in our prayers!

As someone said in a earlier post you try to raise your children right and hope for the best. Do not judge the parents by their kids.

$5 says there is no mention of it in North GA news. Norm's excuse will be that it didnt happen here and he wouldnt see reason to run a story on every one from B-ville who get arrested outside this ares. I will be really shocked if it not only covers it but makes mention of who's son he is. That would truly shock me! I feel bad for the family, but Norm has a job to do seeing as a teacher of sorts has been arrested.

So true. Someone with a school system email whose very hiring is questionable was arrested smuggling drugs into Georgia from Florida by airplane. Since we are talking about access to Union County children, Cooper has a professional responsibility to inform an interested public as to who was responsible for this hiring decision.

I a just so glad that this town does not know what mistakes some of my family has made; I would hate to think what you might think of me.....

I bet most people that have that "kin' that we are not so proud of, nor do we always admit they are kin are glad that some of the judgmental tyrants on here do not know.

I am scared for all the parents that think their kids are so perfect; I hope you do not get a wake up call as these two parents.

Very few people on here claiming to be Christians have prayed most of kicked two families when they are down.

I hope all you model citizens out there without sin who stand here in judge two innocent fathers who are really out there making a difference in the world. We really need perfect people out there! My Bible tells me there is none on this earth, so once again, who is good enough to judge? A sin is a sin, when you sin today in Gods eyes you are no better then those two boys.

It would be one thing if you guys were able to keep this on topic, but most of you can not leave Tommy or Phil out of this. It as if you finally have our revenge, I have to wonder what your real motives are here, it appears it is a grudge.

The fathers ae innocent of drugs, the boys have charges, if they are guilty the deserve to be punished!!!! Their families deserve peace!

As you are admonishing folks about judging, aren't you doing the same here?  Just wondering.

Well my folks aren't lily white. I am an official member of the black sheep society and my mother has actually been asked to leave one county by the local sheriff, not here but in South Georgia. She created a ruckus in this area too and over in NC but I have stayed and she is gone and now people pretty much have accepted me as me and not as her. WHEW!!! that's a big relief.

I don't know Phil or if I have met him don't remember him. I do like Tommy. And I hope that they will weather the storm, because as you all know I am sure there is another one brewing  and this will be left in the dust when the next one blows our way.

I'm sure most of us on here have folks that we are not too proud of, I know I sure do! Their are "black sheep" in most every family.

I must have missed some deleted posts or something.

Everyone is going on and on about the parents of these two guys being judged harshly because of what their sons did.

Yet, I can't find any posts where anyone is judging the parents or blaming them in any way.

Just to remind you: Young Mr. Stephens is / was not a teacher (of any sort). He is in the "tech" department, meaning, he helps keep the network running, etc. He has very little, if any, access to the children.

HSTEACH, while the individual was a "tech" he came in minimal contact with kids. Contact with just one was too many.

It is the perception of impropriety that resounds. All the teachers should be outraged about this as a reflection on the staff. When people elsewhere read the news they are not going to be privy to his being just a "tech", he will be thought of as a teacher in Union County.Unfortunately, the paint brush covers a wide swath, right or wrong.

You are probably right. I cringe, though, for Superintendent Stephens. As a parent whose 19-year-old son has "gone astray" during the last year, I know children's choices can be heartbreaking and downright embarrassing.

We all have relitives we are not so proud of. It dosnt mean we hand them public sector jobs. It's Tommy's job to weed people like this out of the hiring process. Not give them jobs. Nobody is faulting his Mom, are they? And they arent really saying bad things about Will'a dad either. See the difference? Personaly I am sorry for the family, but glad Tommy got burned as a result of shamelessly abusing his position and the people who pay his salary and the salary of his "alleged" drug running son. You reap what you sew.

Again, these two guys were in their early thirties, so talk about their parents doesn't make much sense.

And no one has blamed their parents, from what I've seen.

Incredibly, Norm published the story in this week's edition. If that wasn't surprising enough, he did a little muckraking and had a long write-up on the incident.

The article even tried to establish some reasonable doubt. I'm paraphrasing b/c I don't have the paper with me, but it was something like: 'The landing lights are on a 15min cycle, so they could have turned off before anyone noticed.'

Yes, the airport people were probably distracted by the flying pigs and didn't notice.

All you have to do is key the mike to illuminate the runway lights.
