Daughter he called me and told me while he was at work and it did not kick in until last night..... He is in shock! He knows them both well, just saw Derek the other day. For those who did not know them, he talked to him a few days ago and never would have thought he would do something like this. He has not hung out with them in years, but still saw them around. Thats why I questioned him being a teacher. A tech adviser has to be at all schools, basically it is an IT job (was our understanding), plus he was to install sercurity cameras. That is how my husband took what he was saying, but maybe he misunderstood. As for certain families here, I have yet to hear anybody say that those boys need to be punished. I do not care who they are, I want everything and anything done to make this a safe envioment for our kids. Our kids face everyday something they should not have to face and I can not stand it. Sometimes our family devotions break my heart when the kids open up and tell what they faced that day. I will continue to pray the God gives these families so much comfort that they don't know what to do with it all. As for the boys (here is were I sound harsh)I pray that God takes them to their knees so they have nowhere else to turn, but to Him.

Well as somebody said this is the begining. Somebody was waiting for the drugs, others are involved, and all we can do is pray that all are brought to justice.

This topic is specifically about the verified facts and circumstances about the two men arrested. As they are only accused of criminal activity and not convicted (innocent until proven guilty in America), it is highly inappropriate to speculate about tenuous connections between these individuals' circumstances and those they are either related to or with whom they have otherwise associated.
This topic is not, nor is this site, for whistleblowing, rumor, or innuendo. Dirtdigger, you've been spreading the same "information" over in the Topix forums. Kindly leave it there. Facts are OK. I agree with Zircon's points. If this was some outsider that we've never heard of flying drugs to Union County to sell and got caught we'd be all for them being prosicuted to the fullest extent of the law. But, since it's two good ole boys from local families everyone is saying how nice they are and giving excuses for them, even saying awwww it could of been one of my kids........seems like a double standard for sure!

I think they should be as bad examples.I don't think they should receive special treatment. "Don't judge each day by the harvest you reap, but by the seeds that you plant" |

I have noticed this attitude around these parts. I was living in NC when Eric Rudolph was caught. I was shocked to learn how many local people told the newspaper that they would have helped him out while he was in hiding. They all said "We protect our own."

I can't even read the topix site because either my virus/spyware filter or my ISP firewall won't permit access.

Au contraire! They take the rules seriously in Valdosta. Feds don't think much of flying drugs between states sober or stoned, license or no license. Hopefully thats Stephens' final landing.

Even if God doesn't, the Lowndes County jail is full of big black men who probably already did.

I was wondering the same thing Why!! LOL What is a topix??
I know the Sentinal will report this news, but my wonder is if next weeks NGN will have any mention of it.
There was a friend of mine's son arrested one night with his buddy, who's the son of a prominent person in our judicial system. Her son's name was there, but this guy's name wasn't!! It is WHO you know for sure.

I hear they are "out on bond" and back home. That is what a co-worker told us this morning!

Most people get a bond.... Last bit of freedom for awhile I assume! Maybe they can get theirselves on the right path and help a few people in prison. I know not all will agree, but God can use people in prison. Does not mean they do not deserve anything less then they are going to get, it means that he can use to convicted felons (yes I know innocent till proven guilty) to help others get their lives straight. I would rather hear about that then the other crazy stuff that goes on in there.I hope that something positve (besides drugs off our street) can come out of this.

There is no such thing in America as "presumption of innocence" until the trial starts. Even then it is limited to specific elements and circumstances. If you were presumed innocent you couldn't be arrested. From the moment of arrest until trial, you are presumed guilty and your rights are restricted. In the court of public opinion, you are also presumed guilty just because you were charged - even when the charge is a farce, and often even after you prove your innocence in court. Not sure if you're refering to our parenthetical or not, but I believe the phrase that we used and others have picked up is "innocent until proven guilty" which just reminds us all that the burden of proof is on the prosecution - but speaks nothing about any presumptions. The reminder is just to try and fight that court of public opinion and remind people that when they're discussing things, there's still an effort that must be gone through to go from probable cause to convicted.
At the end of the television show CSI - there's a trivia question that asks - which of these is the criminal? It then lists (1) a convicted felon who is now out of jail, (2) the prime suspect they arrested for the crime, and (3) a third person from the show. Which do you think most people pick?
