Yours was more specific hence the removal, but if you insist we can Admin the whole topic and be done with it.

The intent verses their ACTIONS are two different things..
Could have been handled using a different powered approach..

I was shocked to read one of the names as he had done grading work for us and traveled to Rabun to do it. A kid on a 4 wheeler that lived up the road and heard daddy all mad cause daddy didnt buy the property being developed, decided to make daddt proud by busted out windows in one of the accussed trucks he used to haul his grading equipement.. he was mad.. but not insanely mad even before he knew it was a kid that did it.. this act is an insanely violent act that happend is why I was surprised to see his picture and name along with the other one..
Im still confused about that!

As far as the drama part.. yep, people get mad.. hurt.. feel vengance coming on// glad the most I felt like doing when someone ran around on me was putting nair in his conditioner and sitting at home waiting on him to ever come home, I clicked pay perview every time I could.. that crap adds up ya naw. sigh/... Not bragging... but I dont believe ANYTHING could justify the actions of these two police officers IF they are guilty or IF AND WHEN A GUILTY VERDICT by the COURT OF LAW is found...

Cave men didnt go by laws did they? They swung bats at anyone or anything they feared or felt like I reckon.. they were uneducated in right and wrong... self survival was their method?

Dissappointed, you betchya.. I feel very sorry for those who will have to find renewed faith in the enforcement that is supposed to bring peace to the community, is accussed of ringing shots through!

Thanks for that link HoneyBee. I do believe one of our own posters contributed to that site.

Our Towns County Herald got delivered today.

This is from the Thursday, July 26, 2007 edition. Publication Number 635540:

"Deputies out on bond while investigation continues by David Seckinger"

"Towns County Chief Deputy Eddie Osborn was released on bond from the Lumpkin County Jail last week. However, conditions within his bond state Osborn must take a leave of absence from the sheriff's department until the investigation ends.

The sheriff's department stopped Osborn's pay on July 19. Osborn's gun was taken by the Georgia Bureau of Investigations as evidence. Osborn has turned in his police vehicle and other items belonging to the sheriff's department.

Deputy Jess Gibson was also released on bond from the Lumpkin County Jail a few days later. Gibson, a part-time employee with the Towns County Sheriff's Department, has been terminated from the force after his arrest.

Both Osborn and Gibson were arrested in connection with an aggravated assault on Cynth Creek Road on July 9 when Garry Dean and Tim Shelton fell victim to a drive-by shooting.

Wild rumors have flown around Towns County since the arrests were reported. Some of the rumors were fascinating and included many prominent figures from both surrounding counties and years gone by. Many claims have come into the office of the Towns County Herald, only to be later discredited.

One popular rumor had it that Towns County Sheriff Rudy Eller had been arrested, too. GBI special agent in charge John Cagle said Eller had not been arrested.

Regardless of the facts, wild stories have spread through the county like wildfire, and the incident has given local police a proverbial black eye.

Captain Pat Williams was one of the officers who examined the scene at Cynth Creek Road after the shooting. Williams admitted the arrests have been difficult for the Towns County Sheriff's Department, when one officer does something wrong she said, "it places a dark cloud over them all". But Williams said the officers who have done nothing wrong have no option but to hold their heads up high and carry on.

Garry Dean, one victim of the aggravated assault, must also carry on. He said he has made a few changes since the shooting. For instance, he doesn't stay in the shop much at night, and he tries to move around. Dean would not say whether or not he felt like his safety was still at risk, but he did say, "I'll be glad when this is worked out. It's bad on the nerves."

Further down the page is a photo of a barn that burned down and a short article.

"Fire destroys hay barn in Towns County by Lowell Nicholson"

"The barn burning that happened in the early morning of July 17 is still under investigation, said Terry Parker, operations manager with the Towns County Fire Department.

The barn was owned by Scotty Fain, and the contents within the barn were co-owned by Fain and Eddie Osborn, which included 94 round bales of hay. The structure and contents within were destroyed by the fire.

Parker said the fire department contacted the Georgia State Fire Marshall's office to investigate."

I forgot to mention . . .

Our "Letters to the Editor" section was a lot smaller than usual in this edition.

There was only one letter, and it was about marching bands in the Georgia Mountain Fair Parade.

There was not one single letter published about the shooting!

How odd.

The story was on the NGN link an hour ago at the top of the page under "Breaking News", and now it's gone.

Access Atlanta is reporting that Eller has a warrant out for his arrest (rather than "he's already been arrested"). It also notes that more information is forthcoming at tomorrow's news conference.

Your right. The North Georgia News reported that the GBI had issued an arrest warrant for Eller. Then they took it down. I smell a rat.
Is ol' Norm having a breakdown or was it a sick joke? It has todays date. WSB was monitoring the site when it was posted.

If it is a farce then somebody's going to be the laughing stock of Journalism and the butt of jokes in Journalism classes all over the country. If its a cover-up then somebody's going to be the laughing stock of Jour...

Ok... so nothing much will change.

Maybe someone "requested" he take the story off. It doesn't change the fact that the GBI is saying they have a warrant out. I noticed the NGN article said they expected Sheriff Eller to turn himself in (before they took it down).

It's funny - before all this came out, I mentioned to someone that it's impossible for me to run an errand without seeing the Sheriff's car driving up or down the highway. Also, the Sheriff's car seemed to always be parked at my bank every time I went there to make a deposit.

I can't say I'm exactly surprised by all this. Police corruption is nothing new under the sun. Still, it's disheartening.

It's been a long time coming & I'm happy about it.  I hope they're smart enough to hire someone from the outside for the job.

And then there's the matter of the barn that burned down . . . contents jointly owned by Scotty Fain and Deputy Eddie Osborn.

Funny, with all the rain we've had.

Curiouser and Curiouser.

Oh good grief . . . I had read that Scotty Fain was a developer.

Did a search online. Turns out he is one of the co-owners of The Ridges Resort (formerly the Fieldstone) and the Sequoyah Restaurant and Clubhouse and The Ridges community over in Hayesville.

I'm sure lots of people already knew all this, but it's news to me.
