Seems that this topic or one like it existed before. Perhaps it may be time to bring it back again.

Who scores high?
Who scores low?

Thank you, Molly. I used to be real good about documenting the health scores as I visited area restaurants but fell out of the habit. Thanks for reminding us about this topic.

Ouch! I can tell you from experience anything below a 90 is VERY VERY bad. We only ever had 2 inspections, but I am proud to say we had 100 both times.

I wonder what would happen it folks would look at the score, if low, tell the manager (nicely) that you cannot eat there because of  the low score and leave.  Also, is there a number for the local, district,  or regional  offices you could call and nicely complain to?

Would it make any difference?  The person behind the counter may not care, but perhaps management would if you started walking out because of the score.  Oh well.

Eiik! An 85! Oh dear! Salmonella waiting to happen sounds like!

Sometimes...SOMEtimes it depends on what they are scoring. I do know that we got inspected many times at the Senior Center and for example: Someone dropped off bagged potatoes. They were in the floor. So when they came in that was a big mark down. We didn't cook anyfood there BUT food in the floor? Yea didn't look good I imagine. And the other thing was the thermometer wasn't in the front of the fridge, which brought the score down even lower. So...That score went lower than an 85. As far as cleanliness we were above and beyond. It's was the handling of certain things that brought that score to that low. Within a week they came back and it was 100. So as I said SOMETIMES it's not in the "cooking/food" part. It's other things...but still....I look at scores especially in fast food places and I "cant" stomach it sometimes to even MAKE myself eat in places like that.

I live in my own little world; But that's ok, they all know me here.Go to Top of Page

I have worked in restaurant's all my adult life. I have learned to read the posted score sheet because the score could be low because of structural reasons.I will read the reasons for a low score before deciding not to eat in a place.

The structure stuff is there for a reason too. Like hand sinks too close to mop sinks, or shelves too low to the floor. But yes, I agree that a read tells more than a score. Like you get points off for an employee drink open in prep area.

If you prepare food, transport it from one place to the other you are not supposed to wear jewelry with stones of any kind. Just how many of us take our rings off to cook for our families. I wear my jewelry to cook at home every day. This also deducts points from your score.

I wish they would posts scores in south Florida. I'm sure I would be scared. Some of our local news stations visit restaurants in the area. Most of the bad culprits are Chinese restaurants for some reason.

......KISS.....
