Fannin County Animal Control put a lost pet to death because they thought it looked old and sickly, rather than waiting to see if the owner would come to claim it. Once the facts were reviewed, the county Board of Commissioners were making apologies to the owner and a new manager has been named at the shelter.

This goes beyond "owner's upset." Mrs. Gavin has support of animal rescue groups in the tri-county area.
I'm affiliated with a rescue group in Fannin County and several of my friends attended the meeting. The coverage in TNO was accurate. There is going to be a lawsuit and, of course, I will be supporting Mrs. Gavin 110%. Can you believe that the commissioners have allowed Ferguson to stay on at animal control? He has NOT been fired although the paper does not state that. He has been moved to a different position at animal control and will still be working with the animals. Isn't that horrifying????

Gosh, I am so sorry for that lady's loss. That man must be held accountable for not even keeping the dog long enough to see if an owner called to claim it. You are right, very very deep stuff.
