We've got our own list of features we're planning on adding to the forum, but tell us what you'd like to see us work on - we might just be able to make it happen...

Here's just a few of the items we are working on:

  • Private Messages (yes, with Block User)

  • Settings, like website subscriptions and ignore users by profile, not computer

  • Clear differentiation between topics on each of our websites

  • Avatars

  • Enable a different signature per websites

So, let us know what ideas you have... Dream big... and please don't mention karma.

I love the idea of private message. It helps when we dont have the emails of another user. Thanks Admin for all y'all do and are doing.

Joking aside... What doesn't work on a Mac?  What web browser are you using?  The latest features have been tested on Internet Explorer and Firefox on Windows and Firefox on Linux.  They have not been tested with Safari or Opera, but if you have Firefox on your Mac, you should be able to use all of the new graphics features.

I believe she is talking about the third party smileys.   Unless something has happened that I am not aware of, that is a function of the program and not your added features.

PM message capability sounds good for like PCM said, if ya wanna talk to someone privately and you don't have their email.

Is there any way to make it say who you're quoting when you reply w/ a quote? It usually just reads "quote" and includes the message. How bout it sayin "Such and Such Quote"?? Is that possible?

When I go to "preview" my post, it now gives me a "no text to view" message.  Is that going to stay that way or can it be corrected???

Thanks!!

I like the message idea.

A live chatroom would be a nice addition to the chatboards.

Yes the other forums.

See just a few of the sources we get for inspiration at:
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Comparison_of_Internet_forum_software

We find inspiration on how others who do things well, such as Yahoo Groups, Slashdot, MTV message boards, you name it - I've seen it.  Prior to helping Blairsville.com, I worked for a company who's business involved downloading messages off of online forums, storing them, and reporting on trends on what people are talking about.  I wrote the software that connected to those boards, so I've seen what's good out there, what's bad out there, and what's just average.

When we took over the back-end of Blairsville.com, it was stuck with (as I've mentioned before) a product called Snitz forums.  We have a license to that code and we're able to modify it in anyway we choose to better serve Blairsville and Union County.  It's an old version we're using, and because progress on its official site is voluntary, the current version hasn't advanced much either.  So we've struck out on our own on making improvements.

When you started blairsvillecity.proboards104.com, I doubt you had the opportunity to change the code to be anything you want it to be.  You chose it because it's free - you don't have to put money out of your pocket to host your latest "project."  Proboards is a decent forum platform - nothing too exciting going on, but has the core features any modern board should have.  We're bringing Blairsville.com and the related sites to that modern level, and as time permits, we're going to push past that - as we did with our WYSIWG editor.

Competition is a good thing - we're just lucky that we don't have any real competition in providing a wide range of information, quality technology, and decent, friendly, and honest forums to Union County and Blairsville, Georiga.

So I missed what was like the other forum:
* the three different forums according to the type of person visiting and their interests?
* the use of graphics in posts?
* having different signatures per website?

Ah, I guess it's the use of avatars. And private messages. Yep, never thought of that before. We know our forum software is a little older and there are nice features possible now out there that can be added. But it never occurred to us that "that other forum" might be the source of our ideas. I believe we've got a rather solid history of continuous improvements with this site and the others in the BoeBro family, both existing and planned. That's something I think you'll have difficulty taking credit for.

The only similiarity I see between the two is the name. But, they got that wrong. It should have been called lamar-adnauseam.com

Oh, I wasn't saying that you got ideas from them. There are many forums out there and I'm sure the owners of this site are technologically savvy. Also, I didn't start that other forum, and its not necessarily free according to their website. But whatever. You are right that you don't have any competition.

MAD, seems to me that those people would have put up a website no matter what other websites were or weren't up. And didn't you post on there. Furthermore, the owners of this site, bought it, they didn't start it.

I think some people see Lamar Paris everywhere. Its only perception b/c there has been a vacuum due to the fact that his supporters don't have any interest in talking about him and his detractors haven't been able to talk about him.

"Has anyone noticed how the other website is changing to follow this one's lead."  A quote from you Wranger.

I was posting over there, but it seemed redundant to repost over here too.  It was boring & I deleted my account because of the negativity happening.  There's too much in my life that I want to be good & it isn't there. Sorry! To each his own. The only positive thing over there was honeybee's post & some others who were & are positive, uplifting, & funny.

What is your problem? Who said I don't look at it?  Never said I don't.  Whoop-de-friggin'-doo-doo!!! Are you old enough to post on here?

I don't have a problem. I was not angry or upset, and I do believe it is you who is sounding rather like a child.
"Whoop-de-friggin'-doo-doo!!!"

Which is fine.

But, alas I have gotten us off topic. My apologies to the Admin. I would not blame him if he deleted these last several posts.

Go back & read what you posted Wranger.  You sound like I was caught with my hand in the cookie jar.  Am I to go to my time out chair now?!! LOL  I like other forums, & this is my favorite.  If they add more over there & take some things away, I may sign back up.  But, yes I do read a bunch.  When somethings said against you & you're blamed for something you didn't do, you betcha you'll be reading.
