Watch out! Coming to Tampa Florida tomorrow, and spreading out from there! Hide the family jewels. Protect the kids and pets!

Wal-Mart will start selling generic prescription drugs (30 day supply) for $4.00!

Here is what MSNBC had to say. Click Here!

See, I do read someting besides the Fair and Balanced Fox News Channel!

Hey Gray,

Do you think that this means all the criticism of Wal-Mart is finally bearing fruit?

I'm feeling very devils' advocaty today. "Advocaty" = a new word.

Come on in Maddy, the water is fine!

Anyway, I'm even more excited about the fact that it didn't come from FOX!

(I saw the Iranian president's speech at the U.N. last night. When I read FOX's version, I thought they must have watched it in an alternate universe.)

Anyway, yes, I saw the news on Wal-Mart at work today. It will help a lot of people.

I just had to tease you first.

I was just feeling a little tonight when I saw this on the news! I knew that Maddy would be overjoyed!

Yeah, I'm laughing too.

Where are you tonight, Maddy? You're late to the party.

No, no, no, no, Gray!

I can't make myself click on the FOX link! My hand just won't do it!!!

You know, I actually used to watch the FOX Network years ago, before the body snatchers replaced everyone there with a pod person.

I wear a tinfoil hat around the house now, just in case FOX happens to come on by accident.

Must . . . Stop . . . Those mind rays.

LMAO!!! Me too Wildflower! You & my sister would hit it off. Same views on issues.
Gray, I'm proud of you.
Wally World...I had heard they were going to do that, and I do hope that it works to the advantage of the people.

Why, Maddy, Sounds like you do agree that WM has great low prices and that they are cutting the prices on generic drugs to continue to help those who need low prices. I'm so proud of you!

Now, if they can get it together with offering FULL TIME to employees, get a majority of their employees off of govermental help, killing mom & pop stores, and other peeves that irk me about them. I'm not going there. I've taken my anxiety meds today & don't want anymore!!!

Sorry, but free enterprise will cause some places to thrive and some to close. Supply and demand will drive the economy.

But, come on now. Lets not get into the negatives. Four dollars for 30 day supply of generic drugs is something to crow about.

$4.00 is indeed a great thing.

Although in general, generics are cheaper than brand-name, some of them can be surprisingly expensive.

Hi people!

From I have been reading and watching from varied sources, there is a big question if the Wal-Mart plan will work. I myself have no insurance and my meds cost me more than food each month.

I'm not partying yet! But waiting and watching this all very closely!

Wu,

Do all your meds have generic equivalents?

I really don't think they would have stuck their neck on the line if they weren't sure they could do it.

I'm one of the ones that REALLY sees and understands things from both sides -

Side 1 - I HATE shopping at Wal*Mart! No matter what time I have been to one, there always seems to be a crowd. Don't know how it is in Murphy at different times, as I've only been there during the day. I don't like the way the employyees have been treated - lots of part timers so they don't have to pay benefits, low wages in comparison to other "big name" places, ect. ect. They are known for coming into an area and killing the local merchants, sometimes stores that have been in business for generations. Nope, don't like it all.

Side 2 - If it weren't for the lower prices I don't know how I could have fed and clothed my bunch. Remember, I had multiple sets of school clothes & supplies, new shoes for the kids, groceries by what seemed like the ton, ect. ect. They may have a monopoly on things, but they stay in business because of the people like me - I just couldn't afford to shop elsewhere. Not fair, thats for sure, but no one ever said life was fair.

If Wal*Mart can really do this prescription thing, it would be a God-send to many people. Sonny's prescriptions were runnning us over $300 per month. No insurance here either. A good example - in Durango, he bought a 6 month supply of one his med's. Cost - $36 and change. He just had it refilled here - 1 month supply - $17 and change. Do the math. Way more expensive here. I hope this plan will work and goes into effect REAL soon.

Well, a pharmacist I know has seen the list of generics Wal-Mart is using. I don't know where he found it.

First, it's not ALL generics. They have a specific list of about 300 drugs once you eliminate all the multiple dosages on the list.

Second, many of the drugs are taken twice a day, so the $4.00 gets you a 15-day supply.

Third, many of the drugs are rarely ordered.

It seems it was (no surprise) a carefully chosen list.

CVS calculated the Wal-Mart list to account for less than 1/2 of 1% of their Rx sales.

So, THAT'S how they're doing it.

Not to mention, they may have chosen generics that are already dirt cheap, and not the expensive ones.

The only thing you can do is to compare prices to make sure you are really getting a bargain.

You can see the list online. My husband takes four medications. One of them is on the list but it would save him only eight dollars.

Why can't I get a little ahead instead of a bigger behind?Go to Top of Page

WF....If the prescription is written for 1 tablet twice per day, then a 30 day supply would be 60 tablets for $4.00. I think this will help many people who don't have insurance or who have a high co-payment with their insurance. WalMart will get more than it's $ back with the positive publicity....and they will probably jack up prices on other stuff in their stores to make up for any loss anyway. No company ever really gives away anything. It's all about the bottom line.

Yes, I have heard that Target will be starting this soon, too. Paul Harvey spoke this past Sunday on CNN (I think), and I see that this is a win/win situation for everyone.
Thanks,
