BUT I DO KNOW A LIL OF WHAT I FEEL..Ok. Wu, Im sick of this kinda stuff anyways..but you have applause from me for what its worth for your post and request. Bowing down in praises.. and I respect you.. I dont sit behind the computer like I once did and yes mam Lady, we got a life.. As I said before I can see why my pawpaw always said never to discuss politics or religion in public. He also led a pretty good life with not near as many fusses as most. We make a living by what we get, we make a life by what we give. Sir Winston Churchill

Reading back on the posts a couple of pages on the yes/no comments about the money spent, I just remembered that old saying, " Money Talks" so I think that is exactly what happened. The side with more money spoke louder. They invested more to their cause because it was that important to them.I for one am glad this is over and I hope the signs come down, to me it's always been a non-issure having lived in many places that it was a non-issue. Apparently it is a big issue here. I have a feeling that the alcohol debate will never be over here in Blairsville, this little town is really "different" but majority rules and they have spoken in their donations to this cause and their voting. I think the churches should take up more causes that need addressed, they seem to get things done when united.

Shucks, one last thing and I am through with this topic. The Methodist "assign" their preachers to a location, the preacher doesn't get to just pick where he is going. Could be that we of the church didn't fight the reassignment as much as we should have.As far as his being reassigned to a place where all you say is going on, just because it goes on there already doesn't mean he condones it, may be they need a good Preacher down there to help matters. Just my thinkin' why |

A vote is a vote. Either you're voted out, or it's voted no. A vote is a vote. Goes for the preacher & the alcohol vote.**There is no truth except the truth that exists within you. Everything else is what someone is telling you** |

Why,I don't know anything about your church or preacher, but I do know that most Methodist churches are not anti-alcohol (in moderation of course). Did you see the movie "A River Runs Through It"? The Dad is a Presbyterian minister who teaches his boys fly fishing. When the older boy grows up and starts dating a Methodist girl, someone says . . . "Methodists . . . are Baptists who can read."

I have to wonder...why is this still an issue? The election was LAST week (or was it the week before). The vote is over. Until the subject comes up again (and I'm sure that it will) there is nothing anyone can do about it. It seems to me that feelings are being hurt here and that shouldn't be. Admin: don't you think that it's about time to lock this subject up? Until you do the bickering is just going to continue. Ya'll have a nice day! Joyfulringer |

I don't think anyone is bickering about this subject. It's still a hot topic around here even though it is over, but it really ISN'T over. **There is no truth except the truth that exists within you. Everything else is what someone is telling you**

Yep, the Blairsville Rest., I eat there a lot, and listen to the conversations at the table I'm at. I wonder what will be the big topic now? The only thing I've heard so far is a lot of people believe this will be the makings of the election in two years and who might run against Lamar. No names have come up yet, guess it's hard to come up with anyone who would be good enough and would even consider taking on such a thankless job.Boy am I fumble fangered this morning. why Edited by - why on 07/25/2006 09:00:28 AM Edited by - why on 07/25/2006 09:01:40 AM |

Last night in Mike's we were told that the failed referendum has probably killed Wal-mart coming here. The reason being is they had planned on a development like Ellijay with the restaurants out front. I hadn't thought of that, but it makes sense as to why they would sacrifice the Murphy store to build here.

I just read this in the paper, a big company was going to purchase about 1300 acres behind the summit. They planned to put in a golf course, a marina, a clubhouse, condo's etc. Now, if they can not sell liquor by the drink, they may go somewhere else. They asked Lamar if he could make an exception, like Brasstown Valley resort, and he said no.

I think we already have enough condos in Towns County. Hope they keep going down the highway and find some other place.

I think they were going to also build upperscale homes too! We built the house for the guy that is the head of the uCDB. Of course, he is working hard on getting companies and jobs into this area.

Lamar has nothing to say if a resort goes in under the state of Ga. Brasstown is under the resort catagory & all you have to do is have permission from the state. Now, it's polite to go to your commish & say, "hey, we want to do this & would like your blessing". He could say yes, he could say no. if no was his answer, & the state approved it, then you could do your liquor. This is from a source at the DNR.**There is no truth except the truth that exists within you. Everything else is what someone is telling you** |

That wasn't the way it was reported in the NGN. The tax on the sale of liquor by the drink would then go only to the state, nothing to the county!

You can't say the voters weren't given the opportunity to keep any liquor tax money in the County. The 49 votes decided that in the case of a Resort (which I think would be a good thing out on Hwy 515) the State keeps the money and the County still has to clean up the litter from empty bottles and cans along the roads.
