NEWS FLASH!!!

Most of your moped drivers have lost their licenses for DUI!!! You don't need a license for a moped. Also the scooters

Maybe if all of the passing lanes had not been hijacked for turning lanes traffic could go around the tractors. Look at the Murphy Hwy (19/129?) below Beavers store, past the stable and Chambers slaughterhouse. For those of you not familar with the area, I'm sorry, lived here all my life and have no idea what the road numbers are. Why do we need a turning lane for a couple of houses on one side adn a filed with 1 house and a business on the othe rside??????

Actually Honeybee, you do need a license for a moped:

Mopeds

A moped is any motor driven cycle with an engine not exceeding 50 cubic centimeters (3.05 cubic inches) that can propel the cycle at a speed not to exceed 30 miles per hour (MPH) and does not require clutching or shifting.

Mopeds are exempt from the provisions relating to the registration and licensing of motor vehicles.

Rules to operate mopeds on Georgia roads and highways:

1. Must be 15 years of age and have in their possession a valid driver’s license, instructional permit or limited permit.
2. Must wear protective headgear (motorcycle helmet).
3. No tag is required.
4. Every person operating a moped upon a roadway must obey the same traffic laws governing drivers of motor vehicles.
5. May not use limited access highways or other roadways where the minimum speed limit is above 35 mph.

Everyone I have asked at the courthouse has told me the law does not apply if you get a tag and insurance for your moped, I have insurance but the state of Georgia WILL NOT issue tags for mopeds ONLY motorcycles. Mopeds cannot have tags in georgia. LOL Catch22

Saw some guy driving his down 129 North last week and he almost caused several accidents. You turn a corner and bam there is someone going over 20 miles or more under the speed limit. Other people on the other side of the road, so nowhere to go to get out of his way fast enough.

Very lethal idea, don't try it. I barely squeezed by without dusting him or me off. Our roads are not wide enough for things like that.

well my moped will do 45 no prob. I see grandmas driving slower than I can go on my moped.

I would say a moped is safer than a bicycle because A. It's a lot faster. and B. It has headlights taillights turn signals etc.

no one seems to complain about bicycles much, so I am trying to figure out this whole "mopeds cause more problems than bicycles" concept

I am just waiting for the city of blairsville to ban bicycles too, heck lets shoot for motorcycles and compact cars too. :P

I thought someone said they were illegal?

They seem very dangerous to me, but what do I know?

Be safe on yours.

mopeds are illegal to drive in the Blairsville city limits without a tag(you cannot get a tag on a moped btw), but everywhere else in GA they are perfectly legal to drive without a tag or insurance.
