...SIGNIFICANT WEATHER ALERT FOR FREQUENT LIGHTNING...HEAVY
RAIN...AND PEA-SIZED HAIL IN NORTHERN LUMPKIN...NORTHERN
WHITE...UNION...TOWNS AND SOUTHERN FANNIN COUNTIES UNTIL 600 PM
EDT...

AT 453 PM EDT...NATIONAL WEATHER SERVICE DOPPLER RADAR INDICATED
SEVERAL SMALL...YET STRONG THUNDERSTORMS LINED UP ALONG THE SOUTHERN
APPALACHIANS FROM HIAWASSEE...TO BRASSTOWN BALD...TO SUCHES...TO
GADDISTOWN...TO MARION...INCLUDING UNICOI STATE PARK AND VOGEL STATE
PARK. THESE STORMS WILL REMAIN NEARLY STATIONARY...WITH A VERY SLOW
DRIFT TO THE SOUTHWEST.

LIGHTNING DETECTION SYSTEMS INDICATE FREQUENT CLOUD-TO-GROUND
LIGHTNING STRIKES WITH THESE STORMS. CAMPERS AND HIKERS IN THE AREA
SHOULD SEEK SAFE SHELTER...PREFERABLY INSIDE A BUILDING...AS SOON
AS POSSIBLE UNTIL THESE STORMS DISSIPATE. RESIDENTS IN THIS AREA
SHOULD STAY INDOORS. ELECTRICAL APPLIANCES AND TELEPHONES SHOULD NOT
BE USED UNLESS IN AN EMERGENCY.

LOCALLY HEAVY RAIN WILL ALSO BE A THREAT IN THE STEEP MOUNTAIN
TERRAIN...WITH 1.0 TO 2.0 INCHES OF RAIN POSSIBLE IN THE HEAVIEST
STORMS DURING THE NEXT HOUR.

SIGNIFICANT WEATHER ALERTS ARE ISSUED WHEN WINDS UP TO 57 MPH ARE
EXPECTED...HAIL IS EXPECTED TO BE LESS THAN THE SIZE OF PENNIES...OR
SIGNIFICANT CLOUD-TO-GROUND LIGHTNING IS EXPECTED.

STAY TUNED TO NOAA WEATHER RADIO OR COMMERCIAL RADIO AND TELEVISION
FOR FURTHER STATEMENTS AND POSSIBLE WARNINGS.

THUNDERSTORMS. CAMPERS AND HIKERS IN THIS AREA SHOULD CONTINUE TO
REMAIN IN SAFE SHELTER UNTIL THESE STORMS HAVE DISSIPATED...WHICH
SHOULD OCCUR AROUND OR SHORTLY AFTER SUNSET.
