I was wonderin' about how knowledge of the email came to light...honestly didn't know if one on the receiving end had told or what.
Another thing...how did the one that told, find out about the email?

A long time ago (in computer years) I learned that once you send an Email, you lose control of where it goes from there. The recipients can send it anywhere from there, and that six degrees of separation thing gets awful small awful fast. And your name or ID is conveniently stamped on the message for everyone to see.

The rule was, if you didn't want to see it on the six o'clock news or wouldn't let your grandmother read it, you shouldn't send it in an Email. It looks like, all these years later, that rule has been proven true.

Ahh....words of wisdom. I think this is a place where we can really learn from others! I also always heard when dating, "If you would feel uncomfortable doing something on the sofa in front of your grandmother, then it is inappropriate to do alone, period."

All those news stations listed as carrying the story did not actually show the story. It is on their website.... could we say... forwarded from someone who is paid to do nothing but post stories for them. Oops.. did I use the word forward?? To try to make it sound like it is being covered nationwide is not true. All newspapers are guilty of getting stories from other papers... it is impossible for them to know all the news that is news. All newspapers also include the NGN. OH NO... not them!! Can we possibly think that someone in Mexico is interested in our community as to show it on their television stations? Yes, our small town of Blairsville is great but let's not be so bold as to think we are capable of making national news. I also realize that people are moving in from other areas...let's see...who were the ones speaking out about the principal at the board meeting? Locals? Nope...move ins. That should say it all.Go to Top of Page

"Have yuns consider[ed] that a certain guy who is with the anti Mr. R. [group] showed pornos when he was in school to all of his friends and they haven[']t forgotten it either??? SURE NUFF... is he mad cause he didn[']t send the porn out first? Its rediculous![ridiculous]"-DOC

DOC,and who would that be? Must be a local since all his school friends are here to tell about it. That is odd since I thought all the anti Mr. R. people were suppossed to be out of towners. Are you judging this person for showing porn to his friends when he was a kid? If it actually happened, and if he got caught, I bet he got in serious trouble.

And yes the singing was wonderful at Church on Sunday, and I never forget to worry about what's for supper!

He is not a true local at all... thats funny. His roots are not here by no means and being your such good ole chams with this group.. why dontchya just tell us how many are locals within it?

DOC,
Which local/non-local are you talking about that's a part of the 'anti-R' group. I saw you quoting, but I must have missed that part of this debate...and how is it that he/she went to school here but is not a local? Just seeking some insight...Thanks

The one who is behind all of this trouble is one more wretched person.
Your ambitious selfish egotistical adventure will sooner or later grow short and tiring of those who are not wayward with you. Sooner or later, people will see you for who you exceptionally are.

What fearless leader you only wish you could be. One that desires the attention and authority.

As for the other small amount of your posse, be a charitable humanitarian leader and go feed on another town. This town never asked for you, and never required you. We have never needed you.

Peace would be a good thing... it would be great if all of the head strong and determined charma could be put to some effort in the school at this time for issues regarding all this testing coming up.

I like your post Chevy by all means. Its just a shame that the energy weve drained on a dead and done with topic couldnt be focused on better things. Now its seemin that people dont even care what happens, they want it done with and over. Sick of hearing it and sick of dealing with it.

We can not control the e-mails we receive but we can control the e-mails we pass on.

Every normal human has desires toward the opposite sex. However, what do we do with those desires is at the heart of this. It is called character. Hollywood and many other forces tell us that we are slaves to our desires. I know that this is not true. A dog is slave to its desire but not humans. We should discipline ourselves to live above this. Do we see pictures of someone being exploited for base desires and look the other way or do we participate in the exploitation and use them for our own pleasure, by looking at them. Are women or men to be thought of as objects of exciting our hormones? Shouldn't there be at least an attempt to respect all?

What should be done with someone who, at least once, has promoted slavery to animal desire, who has promoted the use of young women as objects of at least visual pleasure?

I would hope that Union COunty schools would teach our youth a higher standard. Knowledge along with respect for all should be a goal of our teachers and schools.

This is not about Mr. R. It is about Union County's youth and what they are being taught. Teachers should teach and live lives of character. I am not saying that Mr. R can't do this. I have heard that he is one of the best Principals Union County has ever had. I am saying he has done harm to this objective and 5 days suspension indicates a "it's no big deal" attitude. That hurts our entire county's view of what is "right" and acceptable.

Someone wrote that their daughter said all this is immature. If our young people think that our concern over teachers looking at pictures of naked women in school is not anything to be concerned about we are loosing the battle. What are the values of our young people going to be?

Agreed.

Disagreed. It's on his permanent HR record. It'll follow him to any place else he goes. It'll weigh against him in future promotion opportunities. Positions like that are all about resume's and curricula vitae. It was a big deal. And I think the school board knew it when they assigned that punishment.

Well, I'm pretty over this one myself folks, it has certainly been played out, in the national media as well as on this site. A couple of things I'd like to mention though. First, to Food4Thought, it was a New Mexico station, which last time I checked, was still in the U.S. I share your sentiment that no one in Mexico would be interested in this story, and if they did post it, we probably wouldn't be able to read it (at least I wouldn't! : )

Second, the official "punishment" received by Rohrbaugh was a joke, as it happened over Thanksgiving break, so he actually only was gone for two daysóschool was closed for the rest of the week. Granted, he was not paid for that week. Whoop de doo, he probably makes six figuresódoubt it hurt him too bad.

He HAS been punished however, and at this point I almost have to admire him for having the courage and staff support to keep working after such humiliating exposure. Obviously there is more to the man than some slavering pervert and I'm willing to give him a second chance. From all I have heard he is good at what he does, he just needs to take the rules that he is supposed to enforce a little more seriously. After this mess, I am quite sure he will!

I am a retired teacher and administrator from another GA school system (Athens Clarke county).

First, the principal's act of sending the email should not have happen. From posts that I have read most are in agreement about that.

Second, the bluenoses who say he needed to be punished more are not considering the loss of salary he experienced. Take his annual salary and divide it by 52 (weeks).

For $80,000 per year, his loss would have been $1538.46. In most GA courts that is more than a first DUI conviction.

I do not know about your finances, but that would have taken a bite out of my budget.

Third, the Union county school system did not have a "use policy" for the internet in place. They are working on one now, which can forwarn people in the future not to use the school computers for any private commnications or at least to be aware that the system admin is watching what goes on.

In that area, the school board and system administration was lax. Many systems had such a policy in 2000 or before.

I didn't know that the CCC was now not the Civilian Conservation Corp but now a group that Justin has formed? Conservative Country Coalition.
The CCC(original) was & IS a wonderful group of hard working men.

Certainly around here, the works of the Civilian Conservation Corp were significant, but acronyms are limited by the context in which they're used. CCC could just as easily be Campus Crusades for Christ or Chinese Culture Center, depending on who's talking or what the subject is.

Justin's Conservative Country Coalition was the group that organized the Support The Troops event in Young Harris back in June, and the Mountain Freedom Festival (also a Support The Troops event) in Blairsville this past September.

Check out the NGN... I for one am proud of our youth and their own thoughts. Guess Mr. Carter was wrong when he spoke for all those students. Shame on you Mr. Carter for not getting your facts straight before speaking out. I am not a big supporter of the NGN but I have enjoyed reading all the editorials and viewpoints in the paper out today. As far as my comment about Mexico... it was to be taken figuratively not literally. My point was that all those "stations" listed were a copy of the Channel 2 website. Nothing original on any of them. I guess some people didn't think we were smart enough to see that.Go to Top of Page

Hello: Am new to the forum and am one of those dreaded newcomers. In fact, have bought property but not even there yet. So I wanted to get an idea of what goes on in the area and have been reading forum. Finally had to weigh in on the Principal issue, though it is, as many have stated, late in the game and about all has been said already. I can give a little perspective to how this type thing floats in the large metro area where I currently reside. Two years ago, some guys in a big city fire house had party where some mildly inappropriate behavior went on (nothing as bad as the NFL Vikings fiasco). Anyway, employees fired. Then last year, email sending of inappropriate material by city employees. (this apparently not as graphic as the pictures in the Blairsville school). Again, employees fired. These were both first offenses, by the way, are were not in a situation that affected minors at all. This is not to say that I feel the principal should be fired, which I don't, from what I have been able to learn. It is only to point out the his penalty is probably pretty soft by the standards of most communities. I am pleased to see the lively debate about this issue. A lot of good points were made on both sides. Blairsville seems like a lively little place. Look forward to getting up there and to conversing with you all on other topics.....SaintPete

SaintPete, thanks you for weighing in! I truly believe we have a microcosm of what the people of Blairsville are about here on this board. And outsider or not, you are welcomed!
