Yep, just like when I was in middle school, our bus driver got a DUI driving our bus WITH CHILDREN ON IT.. where was all the ya hoos over that one, I dont know. You know whats sad, all us students knew he drank cause he smelt of alcohol all the time.. STRONG and o well... That was years ago. There has been worse things happen and no Stevens was NOT the super at that time.

Of course everyone knew about the bus driver, you just didnt see it on the channel 2 news or any other news... that was to me more disturbing than anything. The man ran into ditches all of the time... coulda ran over someone or something.

This is how I figured the ones behind this rallying to get Mr. R out hadnt lived here long to have compared apples to oranges! In this matter, as any other.. I say thank God this is over and I wish the best to Mr. R.. I wont see him as a porn salicitor,. I see him as a man who has helped SO MANY kids excell and reach their dreams by DOING HIS JOB!

DOC, drinking while driving a school bus is deadly serious. If this driver ware involved in a wreck today with kids on board, the county does not have a liability policy large enough to cover this lawsuit and not enough money in the coffers to pay the excess over collectible insurance.

I note you did remember the driver from many years ago as drinking, and you will remember the principal many years from now for what he did, it is only a human reaction.

Honestly, I haven't even read half of this, so I don't have even an idea of what others think or what their opinion is. But I will say this, Mr R, has always been NOTHING but a gentleman to me and my kids. He has been nothing but a good principal to my kids throughout their high school and middle school years.

One thing we forget, we are ALL human. We want to look at the ones in the "spotlight" and say Booooooo! and knock them off stage, when in reality we don't have any talent ourselves.

Do I think what he done was wrong? Umm...Probably not good to send through a school email because well...Yeah U KNOW! BUT...just stop and think about it. Even if you have forwarded an email with a bit of "off color" humor, then you're just as guilty as Mr. R, for sending email through via internet for "little eyes" to possibly see.

My youngest son is in high school. And for the first time today I asked him "What do you think about all this?" and his reply was more mature than most adults I've heard. His reply was "Yeah, he sent some things to HIS friends, and well, (long pause) I like Mr. R and I wish other people would let it lie!" Now that's out of the mouth of a 16 year old who didn't cast judgement.

Sexual content is punished in different ways in the school system. Just because he sent emails to some other men doesn't mean he's a pedifile. I'm sorry. That's just lame to even think that! And not being bias towards men, well, He's a MAN. But the one thing I can sit here and say is, when my son flipped a little girl on her bottom with a rubber band, he was sent home for "sexual harrassment" for three days and they were friends. The girl laughed but the teacher took it differently. Heck even the principal (who was female) laughed and said she had to go by the "guidelines" for the punishment because of the teachers request. So three days at home was his punishment when he was only 12 years old. So it's usually in the "eye of the beholder" who gets the wrong impression.

My daughter will be graduating this year, and well, she has her own opinion on stuff in this nature, but the next time you (the ones who ARE pointing fingers) an email to your best friend that has a Chippendale dancer in it for a birthday card or a little dirty joke just to brighten that "friends" day, just remember sometimes a phrase of words is more than just a picture. And sometimes a picture is worth a thousand words. But remember you aren't any better than Mr R who sent some emails to his buddies!

I like the man. So there!

~Me crazy? Nah, just three teenagers, get back with me in the year 2010, we'll discuss it then.~Go to Top of Page

Well said Native Lady. My thoughts exactly. He sent it to his friends and they obviously forwarded to others who he/she thought wouldn't mind getting it. I guess the 2nd forwarder was mistaken. The principal didn't send it to all the female students nor did he send it system wide. I have been guilty of sending emails to friends and relatives on my work computer ...sometimes on my lunch hour..sometimes in a free moment. I have also received some "nice looking" emails and they certainly made me smile ....FROM EAR TO EAR. For the majority of us, anything to lighten the load at our work is usually a bright spot in our day. Our stress level beit the President of the US, a postal worker, a school employee, or an accountant (the list could go on and on) is extremely high. Let's give not critize them for having a moment of fun at their job. Perhaps those that are upset don't get any emails and that is what they are angry about.Go to Top of Page

Hi all,

Eric Odom here. I'm a blogger in Nevada and I'm looking to begin heavily covering this story on a national level. Last year we were able to get FOX news in on something similar to this and that is the goal on this situation as well.

First of all, I find it intriguing that there is so much ingorance in school districts across the country. The logic that is being used to protect the good ole boy "establishment" is downright sickening and dangerous to the future of our nation.

One poster says "How many of you have criminal records yourself? "

Who cares how many "criminal records" I have? I'm not the principal of a school so that really isn't relevant. Someone in that position simply has no excuse for this kind of behavior. You can't just say "we all make mistakes" and then forget that it happened. Remember, it's not about those of us here posting comments, nor is it about the principal and us trying to be nice to a "good man". It's about the children and what they now think is acceptable.

To those of you defending the principal... I say shame on you.

To those of you soaking in the filthy power of the unions and the establishment... I say get off your high horse and start working for the better of the children.

I know many will disagree with what is said here in my post. Hell you'll probably fill my inbox with BS comments, rants and letters full of hate. It's to be expected when dealing with people who cannot think for themselves.

I will say that in a few weeks this story will spread like wildfire throughout the internet so you should prepare for the fallout. It isn't going to be pretty but it must be done.

If anyone here would like to send me "information" on this issue, please do so as soon as possible as we are putting together a coalition of bloggers to begin working the story. If you don't know how the blogosphere works... ask Dan Rather.

I can be reached at eric AT ericodom DOT com or eric AT bloggingman DOT org

Looking forward to working on this.

Warm Regards,

Eric Odom

We're impressed that it was even able to interest the Atlanta news market, what with all the news of women teachers that are having sex with their students. Having babies even. Yeah, we really need to concentrate on risque' emails that get sent out. We already hashed all this out. He was punished and in essence is still living his punishment because it follows him around almost like a scarlet letter.

And to those of you in Nevada, I say "Worry about your own back yard." In what way does the opinion of someone in Nevada mean anything to the people of Union County that are actually involved with the LOCAL situation? Here's your answer: NONE!

Ah - I see. Anyone that disagrees with your position is someone who can not think for themselves. That's strange. I'm very much of an independent mind, yet I think you're so far off base as to be practically speaking another language.

LOL. You have a big opinion of the Internet. Have you checked out Snopes lately? They're there just to refute some of the crap that lives on and on out on the Internet. It's one thing to have an Internet presence. But if it doesn't have legs in the real world, it's just so much gnashing of virtual teeth.

The Dan Rather situation was different in that he was trying to pass off fraudulent information as real, even though numerous people at CBS had the opportunity to say "don't run with this - it hasn't been sufficiently corroborated yet." Here, the facts are not in dispute. Only the punishment is being argued over. It's not the same, and the blogosphere (which I happen to support in principal) can't hold the same weight here.

WSB-TV has an online poll on their website asking whether or not the punishment was appropriate. http://www.wsbtv.com/education/7117900/detail.html
It looks like this situation is drawing alot of attention to our community.

It is interesting to note that checking on the WSB-TV Website that 57% of those polled have stated that the punishment (a five day suspension) was not enough. Is that going to carry any weight with the now school board or super? I doubt it. Also you people out there that keep waving your flag for Mr. R. and don't think there is a thing wrong with what he did.. Good luck, I think you will soon be out voted.

57% and the punishment has already been handed out. They wait until the second go around to do the pole? People get interested after its done. Does this sound like justice at all for the 7% that broke the 50/50.

Amen to you Eric Odom. It is an interesting name. As a matter of fact the High School Principal wife's maiden name is Odom. Any relation?
I agree every thing you said and quoted so beautifully. I have stated the same thing. I don't care if you want to use dirty pictures, send them to whoever, just don't do it at school on taxpayers time and money. If you have a big collection of busts at home, that is also o.k. Thanks for your input. I look forward to hearing from you. Now you need to come to this good ole boy town and try to see if you can the editor of one of our papers to report instead of sugar coating. That is unless you happen to be someone he dislikes, then he will smear your name all over the paper.

My husband that does not agree with the way this has went at all just said that the people who wont let it go is what is going to make the ones who werent for MR.R join the ones who do love him.

I say thank God that the LEGAL system has the clause of DOUBLE JEOPERDY. I myself know most of the names that are on this hot pursuit.. and I myself will be looking to see if their names are on jury duty.. and if they are.. why waste tax payers money and time.. before you even go to court, just hand over the guilty verdicts and call everyone and pursway them before the defendant goes to court, after all. Is that not what happened here? Its not a mission to save our children or protect them.. some of these people are on a personal mission to make themselves feel superior.. maybe more.. known for more than what you are. Maybe youre just pissed off cause you got mustard on your white shirt.

Double jeopardy (also called "autrefois acquit" meaning "already acquitted") is a procedural defense (and, in many countries such as the United States, Canada and India, a constitutional right) that forbids a defendant from being tried a second time for a crime, after having already been tried for the same crime. At common law a defendant can plead autrefois acquit or autrefois convict; meaning the defendant has been acquitted or convicted of the same offence previously.

I think the problem is that the punishment was put out in secret and the public was only notified by defacto and that is what people are mad about.
