Going to Meeks park I noticed that the brand new skateboard park and basketball court are still not opened! I understand trying to find out who did the damage, but after all this time we are punishing all the great kids that were waiting for it to open that had nothing to do with the vandalism. The kids need someplace to go! Summer is passing quickly and it's just sitting there empty. Not fair to the majority who want to play there. Any thoughts?

You might email Lamar at unioncounty@alltel.net and see if he will give an answer or will even respond.

Heard someone say and I feel its true even tho we dont use that thing over yonder that WE PAY TAXES ON THE PARK. THEY DONT SHUT DOWN BRIDGES AND OVERPASSES THAT OUR TAX MONEY PAYS FOR US TO DRIVE ON WHEN THEY GET GRAPHETTIED UP. Another thing is, if your gonna have a that stuff, get cameras to tape. Catch um on tape. Even WalMart has um in the parking lots.

I saw the article in the paper saying that they would not open until the vandels come forward. They may never come forward and a lot of money has been spent on this place. They should just open it up and forget about the vandelism. It could stay closed forever.

I agree, maybe just the guilty parties know, why would they turn themselves in? This could go on forever and the inocent kids pay the price. There has to be some reasonable solution other than forever being closed, what a waste.

Yep, I think it's pretty pitiful that ALL kids of Union County are being punished for the ignorance of a few!! The taxpayers money went to build this park, all of it, and us taxpayers need to have a say on whether it be opened or not. The large majority of the kids that use the park are GREAT kids.

Why not plan better? Open the skate park up, get monitors or cameras to observe all activity, and move on. I agree that we may never know. So looks like our money was thrown down the drain for something that none of us can use. It's useless!!

How about we all write or Email our opinions to the Viewpoint in the North Ga. News?

You would more than likely get your letter published in the Sential as opposed to NGN

I guess the best thing would be to call Lamar, or the city, maybe even the rec. dept. to voice our opinion. Summer is going by fast and I know my kids and their friends would love to play basketball!

If you all remember...Several years ago they closed down somethings do to vandalism. I can't remember exactly how long but 'some people' had vandalized the restrooms and such down in the lower part of the park. After awhile (long enough to get people's attention) they opened back up to normal. So..I would say it's a matter of time that it will be back to normal! It always seems there's 'one' that has to ruin it for everyone in everything.

Sounds more like mass punishment of all because of the quilty few. What a concept!

I think I had some Drill Sergeants I had 35 years ago. Can't do that now, might hurt the feelings of some poor wimpy trainee. Sob, Sob. (off soap-box)

That's basically what it is, Gray. They expect a 'certain someone' to come forward (when we all know they won't) before they will re-open it. I remember in High School, someone kept putting dead possums in vacant lockers and of course the smell would be horrindous before they were found BUT we stayed in lock down for weeks with that. Now ...I know that could of been a health hazard and so forth BUT to be in a facility knowing you couldn't leave a building without being escorted and blah blah...I (myself) think was ridiculous! There will ALWAYS be vandals...We KNOW this. WHy punish the rest for the lack of respect of others. Especially when it comes to the park. Mr Meeks wouldn't of smiled upon this! Nope! He would say .." Let 'um play! and catch the other varmits!"
